Hole in me chassis.
Discussion
Almost at the point of despair!
Spend 4 weeks of evenings and weekends stripping off all the rear running gear back to the diff, complete exhaust inc the headers, finished off removing the wish bones and torsion bar assembly. Not one nut has released easily, drilled out every split pin through the castellated nut, sawn through both trackrod ends, until there's a pile of bits complete with skin and blood in the middle of the floor.
This morning sent the calipers off to classic car automotive to be refurbished, pile of wish bones and a-frame bits to the local blasters for cleaning and then feeling very smug with myself.
Started to scrape down the chassis ready to apply Fertan rust killers and discovered a small hole on the inside of the outriggers at the front:yikes:
What should I do, as I can do most jobs but can't tackle welding.
The options I think are;
1. Treat all the chasis apart from the front edge
2. Find someone to do the work whilst its on the stands.
3. Sod it and leave it with a hole (goes against my nature)
4. Can't have a beer as given up to try to loose some flab.:drink:
Is there anyone in the North East who can be recommended to do the work.
At the moment there is not much joy in Wedge ownership, perhaps I'm just tired and emotional - roll on summer months. :grumpy:

Cheer up, it's not that bad
Don't ignore it as that'll come back to haunt you in the not too distant! You could do with having a good prod around with a screwdriver all round them and see how far any rot extends. Hate to say it, but where there's one hole, there's probably another close by!
They're easy enough to replace if you've got removable sill covers, have you on yours? I've not a clue how tricky it is if the covers are part of the body.
Figure out how bad it is first, and how accessible they are, then ponder further......
- edited to say, well done on getting as far as you have!
cheers
Dave
PS It won't seem nearly so bad after a pint or six

Echo what others have said on acheiving what you have so far..
As for chassis welding, would now be a good time to learn?
I had the same situation with my 1st wedge, a 350i and got it sorted by an independant (Peninsular), as i have no welding skills whatsoever.
But of course this takes more money
