Just about to book up for a trackday on the 2nd Nov at Oulton Park with track-action and am after some advice on the noise regs.

On the website it's stated as 105dB - can anyone hazard a guess at how it's measured there?? My car sometimes does a bit of popping when I go down through the gears, is this going to be a problem??

Any help appreciated!

Noise is taken in the pit pane at three-quarter throttle

Although if you pass the static test but make too much noise on the track they will still send you home. Last trackday I was at there, 2 Caterham R500s got blackflagged for excessive noise early in the day.

Thanks for the posts guys, from other posts on the Tiger forums it seems my car should sail through the static test with no worries, better just hope she's not too vocal on the track!!

Interesting that as I've never actually seen anyone thrown off Oulton for noise and I've been a few times.

Out of interest which TDO was it when the R500s were taken off?

Does this also mean that it is down to the TDO what the tolerance of noise is going to be??

I always assumed that the TDO hired the circuit and handled all administration duties, but the circuit management took care of marshalls and noise regulations etc, i.e. it was out of the TDO's hands if a car was deemed to be too noisy by the circuits marshalls.

I am encouraged by your comments though Tony!!! Still slightly apprehensive that the pops and bangs will get me kicked off! I'm putting this down to first trackday apprehension though

I did Oulton within the last year in my R400 which I can only describe as LOUD!!! I'm talking occasionally measured at 107dB (remember that every 3dB is 'twice as loud').

Having failed a test, I was told to come back and be 'retested' after a few warm up laps. When I duly returned to the pits for a retest after 5 laps or so I was told 'no, you don't understand; try coming back for a retest at about 5pm!'

I'm sure it will depend on the individual and how many overtly noisy cars turn up on any given day. It's a bit of a gamble!

The solution? Buy a Noble! 160mph, 0-100 in about 8 seconds and normally about 98dB!
