Has anyone had these before on a S1?
Is it serious or just an annoyance? Westover have reccomended an engine flush and oil change, although it only started on sat after i picked it up after having a new rotor arm and distributor cap fitted. It has also only done less than 2000 miles since its C service in April.
Should i be worried or is this just normal as i have completed on my flat now, so oney will be tight for a short while.
cheers for your advice andy.

You sure it's the tappets? If it's a ticking noise couldn't it be that the rotor arm or dizzy cap aren't fitted quite right?
Well without sounding cutting to you if you understood the mechanicals of a distributor and rotor arm you would know that IF the cap or rotor arm were not fitted correctly you would end up with two problems,
1-it would not run very well
2-you would end up with a great big hole were the rotor arm has smashed its way through the cap!!!!!!!

Hi andy
westovers sound like there doing you a favour as i had this years ago when i owned an s1 and instead of another dealer who will remain nameless giving me the option of an engine flush decided that they would go the whole hog and rip my arms off by replacing all the tappets etc it cost me over £600.00 for the pleasure!!!!!!!!!!
so all i can say is at least they are being very sensible in what they are doing for you as its cheaper to try this than major engine work.
By the way you say you have only done 2k miles since the last service but how many miles have you done in total?

Thanks - I'm well aware of the mechanicals of a distributor and if something was slightly out it wouldn't necessarily smash the cap to bits.
It just sounds a bit coincidental that all that's been replaced is the rotor arm and cap and it starts ticking so a double check there might not be a bad idea. If it had been making the noise beforehand then I wouldn't doubt that Westover are probably on the right track.

Its done 51k but was running smoothly before hand. Anyway, i'll have to see whether that sorts it our or not. Its just bizzare that its all happened since it pi$$ed it down and the battery went flat.
