Had my S Series for about two months now and in general over the moon with it but one problem encountered twice lately on long runs is rather annoying. I start driving the car everything is fine up until about 1.5 hours into then journey. At this point the car starts misfiring/missing quite badly resulting in loss of power and jerky engine output. This finally corrected itself the first time after about 20 minutes, the second time it happened I was close enough to the house that it wasn’t a problem. Any ideas on what might cause this behaviour would be gratefully received

Thanks in advance

Had a similar thing a little while back, sometimes OK all day and other times misfiring etc etc - started with the basics i.e. dizzy cap, rotor arm, HT leads, and plugs - no joy so moved on and changed Throttle potentiometer - no joy - eventually traced to air flow meters not operating properly so replaced them - solved for about 3 days but started again however this was total coincidence as the throttle pot went so changed it and all has been fine since.

When it happens try disconnecting the throttle pot and see if it runs OK without - this should at least rule this out.

Could be a coil breaking down, they do that when they get hot and cause the car to misfire, then eventually stop running. Happens when the car gets warm.

As happened to Jons_S3 back in June

A similar hesitancy with my V8S led me to clean the stepper motor and WD40 as many connectors as I could see, so far the problem has not reoccurred.

i had similar problem when using my S2 back and to to work (50miles each way). It turned out to be the exhaust baffle having broken loose and allowing the fibreglass wadding to block the outlet partially thus choking the engine. Blasting the throttle cleared the blockage each time (good excuse too!)
Check the back of the car for f/glass debris.

Shouldn't have happened to jon_S3's car, the coil was only less than a year old at that point. I know because I fitted it, as the car was mine before he got it.

But it did happen to me in that car and thoes were the symptoms.

Sourced and fitted the new coil this last weekend, it seems to have cured the problem as I took the car out for a two hour run without any problems. I think I need a longer run to be totally sure but it certainly looks positive. Thanks again to all contributors to the thread for help with this problem
