how good value they were on Top Gear when it wasn't a show for PC liberals: they were and still are!

Definitely good value when buying, but I suppose they're a bit on the expensive side when servicing, aren't they?
(I talked to a chap who has an S4GT who told me he left £2500 for the belts service )

Thom; as ever, you simply have to accept what ownership of this baby means; with all due deference to the Aston/Ferrari establishment, don't let time alone sully the memory of this masterpiece.

Indeed, as I yearn longingly after the 456GT as the ultimate semi-practical mega solution to my automotive fantasies, often I think of third time 928 ownership.

Ok, ok; not quite the Ferrari's absolute sprinting ability but fast in most 'give and take' road situations in all versions except the original, somewhat anaemic 4.5 jobbie.

Handling too, was sufficiently entertaining - certainly next to contemporary efforts in the GT world and the sound? One of the finest V8 'woofles' I've ever come across, certainly.

Build quality should not have you worrying in the slightest and there are enough high quality independents to look after you without giving you that feeling of being 'Maxwelled' at the OPC. The biggie is the 70k belt change but what the hell - it's not Ferrari 'engine out' money - nor should you begrudge such infrequent expense on what was such an expensive creation.

I saw an '83 model going at £5999 in one of the Porsche rags recently, from an acknowledged indy supplier. £10k gets you full membership and £17-£25 gets you into the GT and GTS ranks. Here, you need to change your first name by deed pole to 'Werner' or Heinz.'

Cars for men, not punks. By God you should do it!

Thanks for the quick reply.
Actually I know a bit about them, since their engine is basically twice that of the 944 - err, sorry: a 944 engine is basically half that of a 928
Great to see there are some good independants in GB, but apart form Porsche there aren't so many in here!

What I quite fancy with a 928 is its apparent ability to cover endless distances without quibbling at all; I don't think any modern chariot would represent appropriately the embodiment of "GT-ness" quite as well as the 928.
And there is indeed something almost romantic with that exquisitely ugly dash and those big playskool-like switches which have remained the same for the 15 years of production.

By the day I can afford one I'm sure it will be really difficult to take a decision between this or a Cerb...Time will tell; maybe I'll be an old prat sooner than expected

edited to add: if I ever plan to be financially able to run a Cerbera, I should first be financially able to run a 928...

Ahem. Step this way, sir. Fancy a 928 that has had all the big bills done in the past couple of years? There will be an ad in the Classifieds in the next few days
