Speeders to be handed chocolates
By Sue Smith
Oct 25, 2005
Speeding motorists in the Wyre Forest district are to be given chocolate and balloons instead of fixed penalty tickets as part of a recruitment campaign for the Special Constabulary.
The move to give speeders sweeteners instead of fines is designed to highlight the contribution of the volunteer police officers.
They will be handing out the balloons and chocolate as part of a road safety campaign on Saturday.
It follows a recent police initiative which saw lollipops being handed out to late-night revellers in Kidderminster to highlight the dangers of anti-social behaviour caused by alcohol.
But the latest has been condemned by town mayor Councillor Peter Dyke as "daft".
He said: "As mayor I regularly received complaints about speeding and this does appear to trivialise the whole thing.
"People living in areas where speeding is a problem may not understand why some people might just be given warnings and chocolates.
"If you receive complaints about speeding and children's lives in danger while crossing roads and after reporting things people claim nothing is done and then hear of things like this then they could become upset."
A police spokesman said: "It may seem unusual to hand out chocolate and balloons instead of fixed penalty tickets but this is more an educational and awareness exercise.
"This will be a one-day event and, of course, every case involving speeding motorists will be taken on a case-by-case basis and on individual merit."
North Worcestershire Specials Commandant Chris Cookson said: "The event is about working with the community to educate drivers about speed and road safety. We want to avoid giving out tickets if possible.
"We hope it will encourage people to think not only about speed and road safety related issues but also about becoming a Special."

Does anyone know the date in July that it takes for the average taxpayer to work until to pay all of their tax burden, and start earning money for themselves?
Im sure that the local populace of that area will be more than happy to work an some additional minutes or hours to pay for that...

Yeah, complaints from NIMBY's and whingers who don't *actually* know people were speeding.
A work colleague said I was driving badly the other day and "speeding" because I heel and toe downshifted from 2nd to 1st at ~ 25mph, which obviously sent the revs up a bit, but I was actually slowing down under the engine as I turned into work.
Apparently I was "speeding" up as I drove towards her.
Perceptions are such a problem. If this mayor goes on the perceptions of the people who care to report "speeding" motorists in the first place, 99% are probably unreliable anyway, and speeding isn't probably really a big problem!
When will Mayors stop being such muppets and use their brains!
Everyone has to have a bloody opinion, and can't just go, "yeah, interesting idea, lets see how it works". It's always doom and
ing gloom from the people who run our country! Tw4ts! Dave
And here's a further development in the Wyre Forest:
Burglars to be given blow-jobs
By Sue Smith

Burglars in the Wyre Forest district are to be given blow-jobs by the police instead of prison sentences as part of a recruitment campaign for the Special Constabulary.
The move to give burglars fellatio instead of fines is designed to highlight the contribution of the volunteer police officers, who are good at that sort of thing.
They will be handing out the freebies as part of a Things You Can Do With Your Mouth Other Than Eat campaign on Saturday.
It follows a recent police initiative which saw Stomach Pumps being handed out to late-night revellers in Kidderminster to highlight the dangers of anti-social behaviour caused by alcohol.
But the latest has been condemned by town mayor Councillor Peter Dyke as "unfair competition".
He said: "As mayor I regularly received requests for blow-jobs and this does appear to be doing me out of a job".

Yet another of the wacky ideas being experimented upon that the members of North Worcestershire division have to put up with recently.
Last one was handing out cat bells to pensioners so that they could attach them to their purses so that muggers would know where the purses were.
Mind you on the other hand councillors have gone completely against police advice to create an utterly stupid and potentially time consuming to enforce access only order on a couple of streets near the railway station. B division had unofficially declared "Sod em we ain't enforcing it." A tribute to common sense.
Unfortunately I see it has now made the front page of the local rag so no doubt common sense will take a back seat.
btw Bewdley bypass comments, careful of the hidden parking spot at the top near golf club roundabout.
