Kazaa only allows access to the directories you specify and then its only read write access, people cant execute code remotely for example.

It is, with any P2P program advisable to have a software firewall installed. There are numerous good free ones available, but at the moment their names escape me.

Oh, and one final thing, download kazaalite rather than kazaa as the latter contains all sorts of spyware that pops ads and reports useage etc.

And make sure you use a good AV package (Symantec) (I work 4 them) to scan all the stuff you download as Kazaa is full of virus' and trojans.

As you will be needing a software firewall try the free Zone Alarm available here:

And then you can use Kazaa to ironically download the full gold versions of ZoneAlarm and Norton if you're that way inclined...

'ironically download' as opposed to just download.

another similar program I use is imesh.
www.imesh.com
The good thing is that it downloads from as many sources as it can at the same time. so basically. If five people have the file you want, then it downloads bits of the file from all of them, therefore reducing the waiting time. (I think I've seen Kazza do it too, but it's only occasionaly)

one more option is the good 'ol Limewire. Newer version seem to be chock full'o spyware but you can get the previous version (i'm using 1.6b) from www.oldversion.com

I have Morpheus, Limewire and Kazaa and if one is performing badly I usuall get decent performance from one of the others...

Not sure if it works in the UK, but www.DSLreports.com has loads of tools to maximise the quality of your upload/download speeds

cheers, Paul.
