They have recently installed those piezo lines and little post in the road in St Nicholas on the A48 near Cardiff. One just before the NSL sign east bound and the other before a set of trafic lights west bound.

Its a regular place for a mobile trap.

Being Dutch I am not familiar with the UK situation with respect to speedcamera's etc.
But since the 'lichtschranke', which BTW is not very often used in our country, the government taxcollectors have found a new money tree:
'traject control'.
It works with two sets of digital camera's above each lane. One at the start of a particular roadsection and one at the end of that section. A picture of each car is taken at the beginning and at the end of that roadsection. The difference in time is noted and with the given distance one's average speed is calculated.
And yes you've guessed right: when your average speed exceeds that maximum speed at that section you will automatically receive your speeding ticket. All fully automated. To ensure that no reading errors are made all dutch numberplates have mandatory been modified.

Not a lot - just VBH doing a roundup of the current types of cameras in use in the UK.

Did like the BBC sound effects chainsaw at the end, though - surely they weren't enticing the public to go out & trash the one-eyed bandits?

oh never fear, we have those here too. Specs digital cameras I think they are called. It does mean you can test your quarter mile drag race times if you remember to park up before the 2nd camera
