Tesco's 99 RON SUL

Did a search and I don't think anyone's posted this info before.

Here's a list of the Tesco's that are cuurently selling 99 RON SUL.

I've put one tank of it through the turbo, seems comparable with Optimax on performance (seat of pants, not very objective) but is cheaper. However, i know tests have been done on Optimax and prove that it's good for both combustion and 'cleaning', so i think i will have another go at Tesco and then probably switch back to Optimax.

Why won't Shell bring V-power 100 to this country?!?!

It may not have the test results of Optimax, but at least it's not basic fuel with a load of octane boost (which was my concern).

That's bloody good news - now I know it cleans as well I won't need to get any additives form Halfords.

I wonder why they've played that down as it seems to me that the apparent lack of cleaning agents was the only thing deterring Optimax users from making the switch.

Still not sure about this stuff - Optimax is a safer bet, perhaps, given it has the R&D of Shell behind it?

Well my understanding is that Optimax is not a stable fuel. When it's made it's around the 98.5RON mark, but progressively degrades over time. This is why Optimax has never had a RON marking at the pump. So if you fill up with Optimax that's been sitting around in the forecourt tank for a while it probably won't be all that good.

Add in the current climate of costly fuel, the chances are the 5p a litre premium Optimax is loaded with will force some to switch to normal UL. Lower demand = older and potentially poor RON.

This Tesco stuff at least conforms to 99RON everytime.

There must be reason why Shell now market 100RON V power elsewhere in Europe....

Wow – I just filled up a tank of the Tesco’s 99 RON (97.7 pence p/l) stuff and it is gives noticeably more poke than the Shell Optimax I always run and certainly the last tank full.

Bemused as to why if Optimax is really 98+ but threads above suggestion of time based fuel degrading is possible though not persuasive.

As an experiment I think I’ll stick to the Tesco’s stuff and put a heavy dose of injection cleaner fluid in every 10 tank loads or something.

i used teh 99 stuff recentluy awesome and better than optimax IMHO! A question, when my father picked up his Aston from Newport Pagnell he was specifically told not to use optimax although the manual says 98 ron is better than 95/96! any thoughts. If its not good enough for Britains finest is it good enough for germanys?

My car is definitely better on it. It takes a good tank full to fully advance itself, but I switched back to 95RON to see just how much difference there is, as this change is instant. There's loads of difference

Buy your shopping in Tesco and get 5p a litre off too. Happy days.

I am tempted to try it having used Optimax for the last 3 years on all my cars.
However my current car does seem a little lumpy, esp in first gear and it could be the fuel.
Shame that there are no stations near me at all (Woking)

Just filled up with tescos 99 Ron!
IMHO i cant really feel any difference between regular 95 ron, optimax or the 99 Ron.
Boost pressures have been the same on any gas.
Since i had the car upgraded to 600hp i thought i would notice a difference with the fuels.

I filled up with VP-100 several times while on the Megahoon this year and must say the difference was amazing. It's like bl00dy rocket fuel! Why Shell don't market it over here though is a complete mystery.

Just switched to the new Tesco 99 RON after running Optimax on all my cars for the last 5 years or so.

There is a difference, it's not huge, but an improvment non the less.

I'd say Esso's 97 is just as good Optimax.

Untill Shell introduce 100 RON V-Power in the UK (very doubtful), I'll be using the new 99 RON from Tesco.

I'm sure this new fuel has had an impact on the sale of Optimax.

Give it a couple of tank fulls for the map to fully advance itself. My car is soooo much smoother and more responsive on this stuff. Your turbo will be even more so.
