Being the uber-geek that I am, whenever I register on a website I use "website@my domain" as the email address, so I know when a company sells on my details.

This morning I received a junk email to my "nikon@" address, meaning that either someone got very very lucky and guessed it (unlikely) or that Nikon have either passed on or sold my details, or been hacked to crap. This seems unlikely too...

Did anyone who has registered on Nikon's site get the following spam today? I'm trying to decide whether to launch abuse at Nikon or not.

Hello,

I am writing to offer you the chance of taking part in a new state of the art franchise business. For a low start up fee and minimum overheads you can earn £60,000 plus, based on the last 3 years.

We have a proven system with a 3 year track record.

Limited hours, could be run in conjunction with existing commitments.

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

I've had nothing yet, but am (or was at least) on their mailing list ...... having said that, I've not had anything from them in a while - the last being a free green filter to download or was it a list of training courses at their HQ in Kingston.

I get the odd e-shot from Nikon but I haven't had anything that appeared to be from them recently. Mind you if it said 'Genuine fake Rolexes' it would have been binned at the Mailwsaher stage.

Yep - I do exactly the same. In my case I do it to makes it easier to remember your login when you visit a site - although your reasons are an excellent idea!
