Uniroyal Fun Cup - Arive and Drive- who knows about it?
Discussion
Hi, few of my racer mates and I were thinking of doing a one off uniroyal fun cup endurance race next year. I have looked at the Uniroyal website but there seems very little info on arrive and drive packages, ie. costs, who does it and how to go about it, or testing of the cars etc. etc. Can anyone shed some light on this ideally would like to know as much info as possible. I think a UK based endurance race would be the best, so not the Spa 24hr one, as no doubt that will cost a fortune!
any info appreciated

It's not cheap, and the cars are, how shall I put it, a little on the clunky side (very heavy, weight and steering, and only 130hp to push them along so slow as well) - and probably not as safe as they should be.
I cannot remember the prices for the UK stuff but the Spa event was about £22k for arrive and drive when I checked at Autosport last year (or was it the year before...).
You need to get in touch with Graham Butterworth for more information.

£22k is for the season!!!
Including the race at Spa, against all the other racers from Germany, Holland, etc.
The chap who's Alfa I race did the *4-hour race at Snetterton with his Son. The feed back was that the laps time were very similar to the Alfa (33 1.7 8v) but that it was difficult getting used to the tyres, which are Uniroyal, whereas the Alfa runs on Dunlop Formula R's. Oh, and is was fooking hot in the cabin, sitting just ahead of the engine!!!
The cost was £1500 for the race, but the advantage is that this can be split by 4 drivers. Parts are supposedly very expensive, and are controlled by the series organisers.
If you're looking to do a budget long-distance race then you could look at the Snetterton 25hour in the Citroen 2CV's. I believe the cost is about 3-4k for the full 25 hours, split between 4 people it works out at £1k each. A normal 20-minute club race costs approx. £180 on entry fees alone, so it looks like good value!!!!
(* = I think it was 4 hours, might have been a 2 hour race)

£1500 seems alot more reasonable for a race, so is this the cost for the arrive and drive package, or just the entry fee?
What other costs are there with arrive and drive. It would be great if four of us can pay the 1k each then turn up with suits/licenses etc and just get out there and race. You mention spares being very pricey, doesn't this get covered by the package cost?

No, the £1500 includes the race entry fee. Actually, what they do is they enter the car, as example, Pistonheads Racing #1, #2, #3, etc, and then fill each car with 4 drivers.
The one team I have seen with more arrive-drive packages is JPR Motorsport (www.jprmotorsport.com)
For the entry fee you will normally geta practice, qualifying, and the race, and yes, it will work out at about £1k each. Just bring your own racing gear.
The mechanicals are NOT covered by the arrive-drive package, nor, obviously, any damage.
Hope that helps!!!
Lots of different numbers floating around here. Here's what it really costs:
UK round (5 hours), including hire of car, entry fees, testing etc. £4200 + VAT. To be split between 2 - 6 drivers.
Spa round (25 hours), including everything. £15000 + VAT. To be split between 3 - 8 drivers.
Some of the best racing around. OK, the cars aren't quick, but they are fun to drive, the engine is in the right place, they're safe, and price per hour in the car is hard to beat.

Where else can you get to race against folks like Nigel Greensall in an endurance race in equal machinery, for that kind of price?
I did the FunCup for the first time last year - huge fun and decent value for money - sure it costs more than a 2CV, but then it's NOT A 2CV!!! The cars are reasonably quick, except in a straight line, and very crashworthy - I had a big head-on into the barriers at Oulton and no problems - rebuilt in time for the race 2 hrs later. There's very much a community feel among most of the drivers, as most have been doing the series for several seasons now.

Hi guys
That sounds like pretty good value for an hours racing, but this season I am going to be fully competing in stock hatch, just had the car rebuilt after an incident at Mallory Park at the end of last season, so my budget wont stretch to this I am afraid. Cheers anyway, will definately bear it in mind for next season, esp racing at Spa, that would be fantastic!
