Fellow piston header’s, once again the great man has come through.

As everyone will know the Cerb has recently been at Track Car solutions for some fettling.
Firstly the requested upgrades.

Brakes, braided lines fitted to provide a little better feel. I would have liked to look into the Sat man upgrade though it was just too much grief having to source new bells.
The brakes are pretty good anyway, can easily get the tyres chirping, so feel not too bad, though I understand the extra area can only add more stopping power.

Anyway back to the upgrades,
Decat pipes (linked)
I would be lying if I said I didn’t know what these will do.
Maybe a few BHP as well, well maybe.

MBE remap,
Smoother running and a few BHP I would think.

Just of the phone with Joolz, yesterday my car was run at,,,, wait for it,,,,,,, SRR,
Yes that’s right Joolz, drove from Chesterfield to Surrey to make sure his figures could be justified.
So the figures, 419.6 BHP, 364 lbs ft (I think the lbs/f figure is right, the other one is for sure)

Pretty good, I think you will agree.
There’s more to come of course, need to look at a proper manifold, the current one is certainly restricting the gas flow.
Daggart, would you by any chance have any details on this, as I would be surprised if yours was standard. (Not having a dig simply interested as mine is also RR spec).

Also Joolz, mentioned the inlet ports. “did not look too clever” or words tp that effect.
I, upon joolz’s recommendation, shall contact Auto craft, they have a man.

So thanks again Joolz, and all at Track Car Solutions, can’t wait to have a go.
If Joolz has driven there and back it must be running so sweet.

Nick
Hvae spoken to Craft, no probs with new manifold and porting . So thats the next stage.

Think it must be
Although the 2 isn't near the 4, and 319 sounds a bit low

Nice one Nick!....Joos comes good again!

Thought you might have seen slightly better Lbs/ft....still that must make mine a pretty damn good standard 4.5, with 369lbs/ft then!

Excellent result Nick & Joo

Though, did Joo really need to drive all that way? I think he just wanted to have a play before you Good work and verified

So, is MBE mapping the way forward?

New manifold etc? Dammit, wish my current budget allowed me to come play with the big boys

Thanks Paddy,
The Emerald cars make more torque, it's that simple.
God knows why, they do.
Also I am not sure the fig is right, it may be more but not much. Not less though.
The BHP figure is right and until I get the manifold and porting sorted, I think that's my lot.
Nick.

Thought it should have made more than Nick first posted!...
...can I use your quote... "though your's is a stunning std 4.5 in the midrange" ... to bolster my PH profile?

Nick,

At risk of stirring up a hornet's nest , what do you base this on? As a starting assumption, we're comparing Emerald and MBE figures from the same day on SRR here right? Also, since both ECUs have the capability to vary ignition advance and fuelling, you ought to be able to achieve very similar results with either ECU. What could it be?

Yours intrigued,

Steve.

Hello Steve,
It is a bit of a generalisation, I was not looking at any figures, just the way it is.
I agree with you regards the ECU’s. The MBE should be able to produce the same torque, but it doesn’t...
I have spoken to a few people about this, and am still none the wiser.
Both the ECU’s have all the features you mention and many more.
EFI tuning is a massive subject, with so many other factors playing a part, I really couldn’t comment why one ECU would perform differently that another.
I would guess however that it has to be in the ECU/EPROM settings.

Nick.

Hi nick, saw your car yesturday, didnt realise Joolz was personally driving it down to the SRR!!! Dedication to proving the numbers independantly or what!!

(not sure if you've picked it up yet but ours is the extremely scruffy blue Cerbera there!)

Have to admit, it looks absolutely STUNNING. Not so keen on the interior, but it looked very very nice indeed in white with a little pink pearl glistening across the bonnet its probably quite quick too, for a non blue car

Great result Nick.

Keep us all in touch with regard to the manifold, I would be particularly interested as there is definitely more to come by improving the design.

The Emerald cars do appear to carry more torque than the MBE mapped cars from the figures that have been banded about. I must admit that I thought the torque drop was down to the shorter hoses being fitted with the MBE remaps, as this tends to increase power at the upper end of the rev range and slightly lose torque. But it could be down to the accessible (or lack of) parameters within the ECUs?? I don't know for sure but I am sure that one of the MBE or Emerald tuning experts may have a clearer explanation.

I have fitted shorter purple hoses to my Cerb and I have an Emerald remap, I have noticed that the car now feels "lazier" under 4k rpm, but after that it pulls much stronger than it did before, if I floor the pedal in second at say 2k rpm the car takes off as normal, but at 4k rpm it's like a turbo kicking in (the rev needle stutters momentarily at 4k rpm), this could also be down to the fact that the Emerald needs remapping again to suit the shorter hoses, so I have booked it in next week, this should give me a comparison on what gains or losses there are in power and torque (and whether the peak figures have moved up or down the rev range)with the shorter hoses on an Emerald ECU.

BCA,
I was as surprised as you that it had been tested at SRR. I don't mind, infact the dedication is, as you say commendable.
I am sure that julz did it as SRR is the official benchmark.
The interior grows on you. I was in two minds at first. Then I realised no one else has these colours, so more of a one off.
Nick.

Nick, smashing results! although the SRR test wasnt really needed? So far all of joo's cars have been within 4bhp of nobles figures so not much in it... but if its free in the package, then what the hell... (keep an eye on the sundries, joo normally gets you in that area )

419bhp at SRR, Charlie? am I right in believe Nicks red-rose is THE highest bhp Cerbera run on your rollers so far?

Nick, you lucky fock

Yeah and wait till Autocaft have made me a new manifold and cleaned the porting up.
I want it done while the whether is crap so if you are planning a trip down to Saulsbury way (sp)give me a shout.
I realise now, the cars that come from the factory have loads of room for improvement, not knocking them, I see that parts have to be upto the job, but not the best for the job.

True, but it shows his commitment to proving his work endlessly - which is probably why hes the most trusted out there in terms of upgrade work. Top work as always trackcar.

I wanted to take it to SRR 'cos I suspected it might be a good result and didn't want any arguments over the final outcome.

It was a toss-up between seeing a lovely blonde lady in halifax or charlie in surrey. I chose charlie

I was happy to have a day out of the workshop and drive a cerbie down to surrey anyway, it was freezing here and nice and sunny in surrey.

Its always freezing up north and sunny down here in the south. When will you northerners ever learn that. The fact is your just nearer the north pole ?

Come down here Jools, the beers warm and soggy, and the women take their jumpers off more.
