I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I've never seen a private regisration on a bike and a couple of people have said that you can't put private plates that have been on a car onto a bike/scooter. Is this true? I can't find anything on the DVLA website so I emailed them, who told me to email the vehicle something or other, who never replied, so I don't have a clue!

Yes you can. But once you've transferred a car plate to a bike, it can't come off again IIRC.

If you buy direct from the DVLA rather than the brokers, their prices include all the transfer fees too (usually £80)..... K 80GEY is mine for my flying BOGEY Kwak Zx6R

I spoke to DVLA about this as I'm about to put my R4WWR plate on the bike and it appears this isn't the case anymore and you can transfer back to a car.

Ah, great! Did you just phone your local DVLA office or did you call the DVLA at Swansea?

You can't have R1 YZF due to the Z in the final 3 letters (sorry but it is worth nothing )

You can transfer from car to bike and back perfectly fine at the moment!
O/T but I saw a quality plate on an R1 recently:

G3 TLO - Made into GET LO!!

The plate on my dad's bike is very cool:

*** UM with the *s being numbers.
It would be worth several pounds on the open market but it is the original plate that came with the bike in 1961 so it ain't going anywhere!

Moved mine from a car to the bike and no one told me that you couldn't move it back to a car next time.

I've seen a far few numbers on dealers sites beginning R1 or R6, but the best I've seen lately is FA51 YAM, which obviously is going to look like FAST YAM. I can dig out the dealer name if anyone is interested, about £600 if I remember. No good to me, I've got a SLOW HONDA
