AVI - MPEG converter
Discussion
I'm using avidemux2 at the moment, its primarily linux based but there is a windows version. Was using NeroVision - very easy to use but had some greif with it with a few episodes of Lost where the frame rate & sound sync was getting messed up, random 'runtime errors' halfway through conversion etc. but avidemux has been undefeated so far. It's got its own forum too if you have problems. Edited to add: go for 2.1 unstable rather than 2.0 stable, 2.1 is much easier to use. Basically just go to auto/DVD then save the file, job done.
The problem with a lot of the freeware ones floating around is that they put a watermark on the output untill you buy the full thing
