Yep. I'm with you on this one!
If you want to auction something, do it on E-bay
If you want to post a classified ad, do it on PistonHeads
This is at least as annoying as people posting links to adverts in the forums, which is banned, so I don't understand why Ted doesn't take a harder line on it.

I'd disagree - some parts are rarer than hens teeth..
Like Griff 500 wheels - many people on PH want them : so a auction makes sence..
Not that I have any for sale.
Cobblers. People think they're rare and pay a premium.
There's even an advert recently saying that Chim wheels are rare... until last week I had about 10 in my garage...

Not only that, they were sold to genuine TVR enthusiasts, for no profit.
Have you considered runnning for sainthood Pods?![]()
A couple of times
Spotted them all around cheaply (was looking for a set of track day wheels) and ended up with too many...
I'd rather someone got use out of them, than they sat in the garage...
I agree and am pleased someone raised this topic. I have been interested in some bits in the classifieds recently however when I find out they are being auctioned on ebay my interest stops. Ted this should be stopped, why let people use your site to promote another? All ebayers are interested in is screwing as much money out of people as they can. If sellers want to use the PH classifieds then they should put a price and a contact....thats what classifieds are for, please stop this.
Chill out people, they're only adverts!!! As someone who has recently placed ebay ads on PH,I can't see what the problem is?
I've bought a lot of TVR stuff from PH and ebay over the years, and I appreciate the quick link to save me having to trawl through all the sh*te on ebay (eg the ads, which come up because they mention tvr,for neon lights, dubious branded tat, tacky badged goods, etc)
I agree, people should clearly show at the start of their ad that it is an ebay auction - then you've only wasted 'two clicks' if ebay's not your thing
(it's only the same as sifting through some of the pointless banter in the forums,if thats not you thing,I think thats already the subject of another thread)
I must admit,I don't agree with the number of ads,PH and ebay, which seem to keep creeping into the forums though

I recently received an email from a PH member regarding an item I'm selling at the moment.
I told him that to be honest he'd be better off buying new from the manufacturer as,even though mine was also brand new and unmarked, due to the number of bids it wasn't the bargain it was originally
(and will probably sell for more than the new price!)
Hopefully,it's saved him some money
As another example,I've also just sold two good S02's for £5.99 each - if I'd have just listed them purely as PH ads,I'd have probably asked more - there are bargains to be had!
Same goes for some of my other items, which have also gone cheaply (you take your chance with the auction, etc)
So as long as people keep it to useful TVR spares, and not advertising gimmicks,I think it's helpful IMHO
(can I get off my
now please,my feet are hurting!!) I have sold stuff that way but, sometimes, secondhand parts are harder to value than new ones.
You don't want to under/overvalue something so,by using an auction, you get whatever someone is prepared to pay/what it's worth to them.
You might get more than you would have asked or someone might get a bargain!
Another example is,if I do eventually make the heart-wrenching decision to sell my car,I'll probably do the same thing for that.
Again,no-one has been able to tell me what it's worth, apart from for insurance purposes,so I guess it's just worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it (within reason
)
