OK - I have a flat. I replaced my spare with a can of Tyreweld and have a couple of questions:-

1. Are you supposed to remove the wheel from the car when you transfer the stuff from the can into the tyre? (me thinking of losing the jack to make room for my undies on the le mans trip)

2. It says to use in ventilated areas - does it stink? the car is currently in an underground car park.would this be an unsafe thing to do down there? (i guess this could mean removing the wheel to a well ventilated place even if i wouldnt normally have to)

3. What is the secret formula in the can?

4. I remember asking before but I assume 50 mph tops is safe with it in the tyre?

1. No, leave it on.

2. Shouldn't be a problem.

3. Don't know - it's a secret.

4. Yes - and get proper repair done ASAP.

1. IIRC you're supposed to roll the car so the puncture is facing down into the road/tarmac (if that makes sense), presumably to avoid the stuff in the can transferring to the tyre and then squirting out of the gap

3. baked beans, superglue, water, semolina and flour. ok I made that up, if you hadn't guessed already

If the car's in a garage and you can jack it up...

Take the wheel off and take it to get repaired

Only my suggestion of course, but you're clearly not in a rush !!

I want to get all 4 tyres renewed though and change from a 55 profile to a 60 profile. I was going to just take off the 1 wheel and take that down to get the new one but would have to drive back down there to get the others done and the journey would be on 3 55 profile tyres and 1 front nearside 60 profile tyre!

3. Inside the can is mostly compressed air and then latex comes out at the very end to put a coating on the inside of the tyre.

Latex at the end???

Not in my experience ......

Used it once on a tyre that was continually losing 10-15 psi a day. Attached to the valve, squeeze the lever til no more goop goes down the tube into the tyre, drive slowly to the next garage and adjust the tyre pressure accordingly, then hoon around as normal for the next couple of months as if nothing was wrong. A few checks n it was holding pressure just fine. Eventually did another 5000 miles onit before I changed it (it was bald by then tho!)

Just my experience of course.

My experience a lot liker Mondeoman's. The tyre never lost any more pressure for the rest of its life.

oh balls - if only i read the instructions fully before using (i was never good at that with the video, computer etc)

The car is sat underground in a car park where you need to drive up a fairly steep slope to get out. Ground clearance at the front is a close shave. I have just emptied the tyreweld in the wheel and the tyre pressure remains VERY low. Then I go on to read you should immediately drive 6 - 12 miles. Oops, the fact that the pressure is still so low in that punctured wheel means I cant even get out of the car park

looks like I'll have to drive around my parents and dig out where i stored the spacesaver shite thing

The can won't actually inflate the tyre very much. Even if you haven't taken it for the 6km spin, try pumping up the tyre - it may actually work.

It "got me home" in the Noble last week - but the tyre was totally shagged so I had to replace it. It didn't really inflate at all when I pumped it in - but then took 27psi fine at the next garage.

cheers Joust - brought an inflator in with me today to stick some air in and see what happens - picked up the space saver last night as well in case it doesnt work - but would rather avoid having to change the wheel in my suit!

Joust - did you just drive to the garage on next to nothing tyre pressure then? i would be worried about damaging the irreplaceable alloys on my car, as well as the fact the ride height catches the exhaust on bumps with fully inflated tyres

BTW - loved your car to bits at Pie on the Beach (i think you had only picked it up the day before). If there was a car to take me away from TVR (ssshhh) then the Noble gets the vote. Would love a spin at another meet?

You don't have much choice in the Noble - there is nothing except the squirty stuff.

Yep - I drove from the A12 down to the services at Dartford. The tyre was totally shagged on the inside wall by that time - but the gunk managed to keep it all together.

It does make it "hard" to the touch - just not really inflated (it had about 5psi in it when I got to the garage). Adding another 20psi or so seemed to sort it out

If the gunk goes in and you can inflat it, then just drive <30mph (as it says on the can). If you aren't going far the tyre should hold together I would have thought - but take it very very slowly!

Wasn't mine - I've only done VW . If I around when you are just give me a shot (I'm the *ahem* larger one of the two bods usually in the car).
