..in common with a lot of PHers i've become unable to make a big decision without consulting you lot, so help me out with this....:D

i've just been offered the chance to take over our derby office from the suburban nottingham office I currently run...there are +ve and -ve sides to this however..

how is derby for a night out? good bars? quality restaurants?

derby is a lot cheaper for houses..

current office has an estate agency manager with 'people management issues'

derby office is city centre and therefore busier...

current office is in a very wealthy area $$$$$$$$ :D

dno't have any ties to nottingham as such, none to derby either..

closer to better roads in derby..

nottingham has wayyyy better shops and amenities..

so bearing in mind the opportunities offered by the derby office against the fact that nottingham is a better place what would you lot do?

ps I could make the same money out of derby as I currently do

pps derby offers me the chance to turn round a failing office (exactly what I did in west bridgford) and therefore look great in front of the director :D

:scratchchin:

suggestions/advice welcome!

Whats your gut instinct...!?

if youve done it before and it worked, do you see the same potential here?

It sounds to me like you could potentially have a nicer house (cheaper area), therefore more spare cash to spend on finding the better places to frequent in the new area! (Or on petrol to somewhere out of the area) PLUS - look like an allround good egg with the big cheeses.

You have painted a picture of it being a good move, I sense that this is your inkling anyway?

Good luck whatever!

Compared to Notnum, crap!

Yes, but move outside of the city a few miles. I can tell you what all the suburbs and outlying towns are like

You said it

So wont one offset the other?

Yes, absolutely

But it's not far away to pop over for some shopping

So take it then, and pop back to Notnum when you want stuff.

Also, Derby folks will be an easy sell compared to West Bridgford folk, who are either chattering classes or Daily Mail readers.

And, I will be in your office all the time, we will need to find a local for coffee & cakes and drinks during licenced hours

it's an existing office and the market is good in the midlands - registered 1000 more FTB's per week between 14 offices this quarter gone against this time last year..plus houses are selling and viewing is up...may be different in your part of the world though

All too often, many an hour to kill between calls.

The Derby-Nottingham-Derby commute, and vice-versa is a nightmare. I used to commute from Derby to Northampton for a few years. I was asked to look after the Nottingham branch for a fortnight, what a hellish commute, it took twice as long as the Northampton run, and so much more aggravation too.

Yeah, but given that or living in Derby!! Think about it

I'd rather walk from Nottingham, with three ferrets down my trousers & pins in my eyes than live in Derby

Tom,

Why don't you take all of the negatives and go talk to the cheese about some sort of extra compensation if you make this "sacrifice". As you have done it once already, it wouldn't be out of line.

Be prepared for some extremely specific production goals and negotiate them as well.

Might make the whole thing more pleasant...
