Lovely 30th Birthday Present
Discussion
Mrs XXPLOD took me on a surprise trip to the Cotswolds last week for my birthday (30th - gulp!). She insisted we were back at our hotel at a certain time. Then a Ferrari 360 pulled up outside! She had hired it for the afternoon. It was the couple with the F1 gearbox.
Suffice to say, a fabulous 4 hours was had on some lovely roads. I was allowed up to 100 miles and I did 94, which cost £25 in fuel - so I guess that's about 17mpg. Not bad I thought. I didn't think much of the F1 gearbox though. I found it jerky under harder acceleration, not very smooth when pulling away, especially if you're trying to nip on to a roundabout swiftly and incredibly annoying when it would select Neutral at inopportune moments.
The car had done 55K, so I wondering if maybe it was the clutch/gearbox which was a bit more tired than a more cherished example.
I've got a new Cayman S arriving in January and Mrs XXPLOD is not too keen on the idea of actually buying a 360, but I've seen some very nice circa 5 year old cars slowly drifting towards £60K which is slowly getting within reach. Longer term what do you all think on residuals for 360s, and is it ever worth considering ones which have big miles on them?

That's a really nice present Scott, and some great roads for you to open it out on too.
You don't have to go for an F1 360 since they are around in manual configuration. The early F1s weren't particularly refined. There are software upgrades that improve things enormously, though I believe there is also a mechanical improvement in later versions. That car you drove sounds like an early one and has probably led a hard life. I doubt it is representative of what you could find if you looked.
As for residuals, then there's a great deal of sag across the entire range. I say this as a 360 owner not as a wannabe owner trying to depress residuals. You've got 355s well below £50K now and early 360's heading this way. I believe there are more 360s than any other V8 Ferrari and this has undoubtedly affected the market. I don't necessarily think it will fare worse than previous V8s in terms of levelling out, but it has got/will get there faster.
Lovely car though and a cracking present!
