Hands up anyone who has not taken the rear screen out of their car! :teacher:

(MkII convertibubble owners are excused....)

Just realised I've "never got round to it" and it always looks too fiddly :paperbag:

Am I the only Tuscan-owning Superwhimp in history?

I used to (More frequently in the summer) take the rear screen out and leave the roof on. You could have all the windows down and there was no wind noise and you wouldn't get a sunburnt head.
Drive fast enough with the roof on and it'll only be a matter of time before you get to drive with the rear screen out...

I only ever take the window out if I am going to be travelling on a motorway. 2 reasons

1/. Wind buffeting is far less at high speeds (70 mph!)
2/. Despite having the new larger screen the scare stories of window popping out at speed have stuck with me.(Having said that did get tempted a while back on a dual carriageway by Ferrari 550 & M3 who were having fun & despite overtaking both of them the back window remained intact) Should add that the M3 had to give up cos his limiter cut in (must have been set at 75mph!!!!)

Howard.

They are quite fiddly if you have knackered catches. On mine I replaced these for a few quid. They just unscrew directly from the body and the new ones screw in. This made the job a whole lot easier, and was a better fit as well.

As far as I understand, it is illegal to drive without the rear screen out if the roof is off.

This is because it is a crime of inadequate vanity and balls not to do so. The rear screen out is one of the many Tuscan-only (or Tuscan-does-best) perks that must be taken advantage of at every opportunity.

On the catches front, soaking them with some WD40 spray makes them so much smoother to catch and release. Also, I have found that a small strip of velcro stuck to the top edge of the rear screen allows it to stick to the roof very reassuringly. Having said that, I do secretly relish the idea of the rear screen shooting out at speed. Seems a small price to pay for having a very James-Bond style accident.

Drove around France like that in the summer. On a really hot day its perfect. Lovely air flow through the car but no sunstroke.

Me too!! Ive never had a problem taking it out or putting it back in again. (As the actress said to the Bishop). Also, the Tuscan easily looks its best when it is stripped down for action. (oo-eer missus)

very scary when the rear window comes out fast or slow speed on my MK2 the rear screed has come out twice luckily I was traveling at speed and saw the corner lift just in time to slow down the other time was on a bumpy road screen right out retrieved the screen luckily no scratches or chips. Now the screen has been replaced for new and better fitting one so don’t expect any further problems.
Cheers
