Sorry to start another oil thread. I have read all past ones so I'll keep this question very simple...
I have 5 litres of Penzoil fully synth 5W 50 at home & I wondered if it would be OK coming into winter to use that in my C4B (LS1) GTS (R) engine? I scanned through all the threads I could find & this exact viscosity spec was not mentioned as far as I could see. If I should not use it in my car, I'm happy to bring it along to Rob's cruise on the 13th if anyone has an engine where it could be used.
Thanks for any input.

Further to above (if it's relevant), my typical driving habits are:
1. I always warm up my engine for at least 5 mins before going anywhere
2. car is not garaged
3. I never push it to "the limit" (no track requirements)
4. As you would expect, occasionally wind it up a notch or two to wipe the smug smile off faces of boy racers and "munich taxi" drivers.

Cheers J

The HSV owners manual has a list of supported blends.
Basically Mobile 1 10/30W is the best but you can use 20/50 or 15/40 by the looks as well. 5/50 isnt listed maybe its a bit light. Take a search on ls1.com.au for 5/50 and see if anything comes up.

For winter i think that you would be alright to run a 5w. You might find that you will burn a bit of oil if you do alot of stops and starts, so keep an eye on it, but always good to have a bit of oil hanging around when you first start it up. See if I can find out some specs tonight from you from my old boss, he is the king of oils.
