Hampster Eaten By Cat

Our hampster (George) escaped yesterday and was ravaged by our cat (Henry) - Took George to the vet and he said he`s got a broken leg at the front and a dislocated leg at the back - but wouldn`t put him down as he said he`s still eating and can get around - although he keeps keeling over and looks a right mess.
What do you think - should we have him put down or let him live???

My gerbil got mauled by my sister's pet Rat when I was young. It lost it's tail, the right side of its head including half it's mouth, an eye and an ear. 
My sister, being the animal lover that she was
wouldn't let us put it out of it's misery. So we nursed it back to health and it lived for a couple of years in luxury. We renamed it Quasimodo though because it had a terrible hunch, and breathed as noisily as the Elephant Man.
Not sure if it would have been kinder to put it down really now I've looked at what I've written.

Two of them had the neighbours cat for breakfast, trouble was they had a tug of war over it, not a pretty sight.
The cat died nobly, fighting two much larger animals of inferior intellect but greater strength. The physical victory is with the dogs. But from a spiritual perspective the cat won. Sorry, but that's the way it is.
I say, let the Hamster live, for he pitted his wits against one of natures finest hunters, and got away with his life. Pity stayed the cats paw. Many hamsters that live deserve death, and many that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? I feel that this hamster still has some part to play, for good or ill...
Have just phoned home and its not looking good - George hasn`t moved today and knowing my wife he is probably already dead - but she won`t open the cage and touch him!!
Reminds me of a colleague at work who was asked to drive home by his wife as she said their cat had a bird on the lawn and was mauling it do death and she couldn`t cope. He drives home from Heathrow to Weybridge and find the cat on the lawn with a large leaf in its mouth!! Not a happy chappy!!

Racegirls hampster (Ratty) passed away piecefully a few weeks ago, after numerious phantom deaths, were it would go cold and inactive only to some back to life after a spell in front of the fire, but all this animal against animal confrontation got me thinking, I think it was a episode of Friends were the monkey was being sold to a zoo but one bloke wanted it for a fight against other animals and to even the fight up weapons were allowed, so purely for fun, what would be a fair fight?

The little fella deserves a chance to live. I've seen rodents survive with worse. Give him a chance! If he's still eating there's a reasonable chance he'll be okay - it's when they stop eating you have to worry.

48/72 hrs recovery time for the hamster.
No progress on mobility = put it down.
Small Progres = return to vets to confirm whether progress will develop. If not = put it down.
Loads of progress = feed him some more ..... but don't put him on the wheel quite yet.
When our dog attacked the tortoise for the second time I really thought it was game over for Hendrix (tortoise) as he looked like a badly chewed pasty.....but low and behold he came through like a trooper !!!
C'mon hamster !! I am surprised though that the stress of the attack didn't kill it in the first place. They are fairly highly strung after all....
