I've searched but found nowt so I hope somebody can help.

We have one head office and an outlet in different town both connected to broadband.

The H/O connects to the CCTV system in the outlet via broadband and then (at the outlet) a router then a video web server.
(The H/O computer uses some softwear to bring up a webpage, we select the site, enter a password and bingo! we can see the cctv at the outlet.)

The H/O has a computer. The outlets don't, they just have a router and video web server.

The outlets broadband has a dynamic DNS so we used www.dyndns.com and got the IP address number to point to an address (eg. blueyes.ath.cx). DYNDNS says that it will follow the IP address number if it changes. Trouble is... it doesn't... so every now and again I have to drive to the remote outlet, plug in my laptop, go on the dyndns site and update the IP address. Then it works again, sometimes for a month, sometimes for just a week.

So, finally (and thankyou for your patience) is there anyway I can make sure that, when the IP number changes, it still points to the ath.cx address, or if not, change it from head office?

Oh yes, and we don't want to spend any money on fixed IP or mega buck hardwear.

Many thanks brainy people. :)

I know that Netgear routers have a page in the setup for updating dynamic DNS servers with your IP address. Never had cause to use it myself. Surely a fixed IP address is only a couple of quid a month?

I did something very similar with an IP camera connected to broadband, saving images of a building site, periodically.

What Dyndns client are you using (the software that monitors your IP address and reports it to dyndns)?

One running on a PC or one embedded in a device thats contains a DSL modem?

I use it via my Netgear DG834G (has an embedded client) and it works perfectly.

DYNDNS client?..Hmmm... I think that must be the problem.

On the remote site we are using a zyxel prestige 600 router. That's all. Connected it to the broadband and then plugged the cctv into the video web server and then plugged the video web server into the router.

I don't think the router can report the address to DYNDNS.com.

If it can't will I have to get a static IP? Where's the best place to get one or do I have to get it from Wanadoo?

Thanks again for your help.

why not change your router for one that does support dyndns - thelinksys ones are around the 50 notes mark now. Cheaper than having a static IP address!
