It should ....... But it dosent
Discussion
whilst bashing my head against the wall i write this plea for help ............
1984 tasmin 350 with knackered engine
fit replacement secondhand complete engine with injection (never heard running)
engine turns over, will not start
IGNITION
checked static timing
new leads
new cap
have spark at plugs
FUEL
gauge reads 1/4 tank.
fuel pump buzzes.
fuel at rail.
swopped pressure regulator.
INJECTION
swopped ecu twice.
put a bulb across pins 4 and 17, bulb is illuminated when ignition on.
swopped resistor pack.
checked that power was being fed to resistor pack
swopped throttle sensor.
put a bulb across one of the injector two terminals, flashes when engine cranked.
NOTE
seems to try faintly to fire.
plugs dry.
after trying to start you can hear the fuel pump buzzing away continuously.
HOW DO I GET THE BLOODY THING STARTED, or do i tow it around to mowatts and let him sort it
..... answers on a post card .... please please

'None of the plugs are wet' .. sounds like you have found the problem..
You could test by removing an injector and spraying into a container while cranking over..
Is the throttle pot / airflow electrics (earth connector) connected !

Sounds like you have proved there is a spark but no fuel. Can you get any sign of life by spraying damp start into the intake? That would confirm the ignition side is OK.
Assuming it *is* a fuel problem, I would check that when cranking there is power to the pump, and the injectors are being triggered. Then confirm that you do actually have fuel pressure. (If all else fails, just ease one of the joints on the fuel suply line after cranking, be ready for a small amount of fuel to come out under considerable pressure.) If all that looks good the ugly finger of suspicion points at the injectors, remove and test them.

Hi Pistolar....Now! Not telling Grandma to suck eggs at all, but I have gone thru so much of this myself.
First time was the inj's were clicking instead of "clacking". Give them a good whack with a pce of bar. On the aly rail bit, ( see Wedjie's Thread )not on the inj itself or you will break it while you turn engine over.
Secondly, there is a wire coming from the starter motor which goes to the coil ( -neg side I think ). This was breaking down on mine , giving only 5-6volts. It was just getting to start, you know the sound when its just about to catch , then it would keep on turning over. I had to replace this with an inline diode and wire thru the engine bay. Then it would start first time as the coil was having the full 12v plus.
Good luck.......UG

Lost interest, wheeled car back into garage, snow .......... thought of spring forces me to make a crack at sorting out the starting ........ took the injectors out and took them too an injection specialist today ... result is only one is working ....yippee problem found.

Never believe a 1/4 tank reading. Seems you checked everything else. Maybe not enough to keep fuel pressure up
