Just got into a 996tt, sometimes when I fire it up it smokes, I'm not sure if this is because I have a bad habit of putting my foot on the loud pedal when starting, or is it the turbos on the way out

This is a very common problem with all TT's.

Mine does it from time to time, there's nothing wrong wit the car, i think it is worse when car is turned off when hot.

It can be a bit embarrassing though.

it is common to all flat six engines - so long as it clears pretty much instantly and doesn't remain when hot then it is nothing to worry about. Seems to be especially bad if you switch off hot then leave it for a good few days.

Flat six syndrome, oil has nowhere (sumpwise) to go,
but the horizontal cylinders, which often get a tiny bit of oil seeping past piston rings.

When the car stands for a day or two, or even overnight, this tiny amount of oil,
is burnt on start-up, which is what we see sometimes.

Parking up, or down, a slope sometimes helps for some reason.

My car sometimes does this after I've washed it, driven it 10 feet from the wash bay to my garage and then returned a couple of days later for a drive.

OPC recommends Mobil 1 5w-40 here... Its shear strength is somehow a bit higher than the 0w40. The wider the gap between the xW and the Wx the better the shear resistance...
