Chapman or Chav?
Discussion
Ive recently bought my first Elise and Im thoroughly enjoynig the experience, I have also started to do a coulpe of Modifications to it namely a sports exhaust and an Induction kit.
I think the modifications make the elise sound as it should when it left the factory, I am now scared of doing any further mods at the risk of making a bit chav.
What other mods can I do that are champan and which ones are chav (if any at all)?

To contact Roger - Sabre Heads telephone 01722 332234. A plus point in doing the head is that you can get the head rebuilt with the Rover Head kit with the new Head Gasket to avoid the HGF. HGF can be costly cleaning up all the mess.

Hi - I know everyone has been having a bit of a laugh (myself included), but I am sure you would like some earnest advice regarding mods.
Externally the elise is a great looking car - you have an S1 by your profile. Well done on your choice. A few things I would mention, both from experience and from good advice I have been given. You will certainly feel more like you are in a sports car with the induction and sports exhaust. Good choice.
Otherwise, the quickshifter and linkage removes a lot of the sloppiness about the gear change. There a number of threads detailing this. Try eliseparts for prices etc. You could install the quickshifter yourself. The linkage is a bit more tricky.
In terms of other mods, it is important to keep a balance between the benefit you will get and the cost - you may not get it back if you sell the car.
Opening up the engine and modding heads, valves etc can give you a lot more power, but you need to be careful not to overstress the engine and to overcapitalise. People seem to be moving away from major internal mods and ultimately opting for engine transplants - honda, ford duratec or Audi VAG in the quest for ultimate power.
As for external mods - scoops etc, this is where you need to be careful not to spoil the line of the car etc - personal choice, but barring something extreme, it is not a car that "chavs" easily. Though we have all pointed out useful ways to achieve this!
Good luck with the car and you can always post and ask about individual mods as they crop up.
It is a great little

I completely agree with what you have said and the next mod will be the gear linkage, I used to have an MX5 and the gear change on that is superb, so I think Ill sort that.
To get more power it is far to costly, so I think I will get a 111S, but at the moment Im happy with what Ive got

Something shiny for the interior...?

Thanks, Ive already got one!!! It looks quite cool
Anyone else got a gear gate surround? Mine has cut into the gear stick, is this the norm?
Nick
How much space is there between the gear shift and the plate in 5th gear? If a lot and the gearplate is properly central, the problem may lie in the linkage setting. Also, there are three ways to set up the gearshift if you have a shortshifter - right hand drive, LHD and central - check this as well.
Well done - I really like the look of the geargates. Especially the Mk1 geargate - it is not as shiny as the Mk2 gate and does not reflect sunlight as much. I also put a lotussport gear knob on which is quite long and covers nearly the whole shaft of the gearstick - looks much neater thatn the standard long gearstick.

This is true - however someone should tell the owner of an Elise I saw the other day who had a race track sticker of 005 on the front - chav or not - thats sad.
