Hey!

Ok here goes! As you can tell im a new member and the following questions im going to ask, you proberly can guess!

I currently drive a mazda rx8 at the moment and while im still young i want to own a 2 seater. Now its either the exige s2 or the honda s2000. Please could someone answer/help in the following questions:-

1. Can i really use the s2 on a day to day car, i.e. pop down the local garage and pick some bread up!!

2. Semi slick tyres! mmmm slick in the wet and ice doesnt sound to good to me! whats it really like?

3. The rx8 gets 220miles out of a 50£ petrol! Will the s2 better this! i hope so!!

4. How hard is the ride? Can you feel every bump etc.

5. Is the built quality good? is there many rattles, bits falling off etc !

and lastly can this car get into car parks, over speed bumps!!

Sorry theres loads of questions, just trying to do some reseach into this car!!!

thank you
phil

Hi welcome to the nut house!
Yes, as long as you dont want to move a wardrobe.

Tyres will deal with anything but standing water. Change to a set of bridgestones for the winter.

Far better! I have an 111R, same engine etc and I get 240 miles to a £32 tank of fuel and no one could accuse me of taking it easy.

Very Hard! Depends how sensative you are. No problem for me.

Very good, bits dont fall off. It is a hand made car so there are the odd problem but nothing serious, lotus have got it sorted.

You are not going off roading in one and you take it easy when you see a mountain of a speed bump but the only place that you may have problems is Sandbanks ferry at high or low tide. Not a problem for most people.

I have given very short answers as most of these questions have been answered in other threads especially the "everyday car" topic. Have a glance some of the threads and if there is anything else, come back!

Hi!

Thank you for the reply!

So im guessing you can use this car for a every day car, when you just get used to the small boot and getting in and out etc. Lastly would this car put a grin on my face everytime i drove it! Oh yea how quick is it really!

thanks
phil.

The Exige is the best road car that you could live with every day (it is not as unforgiving as an Ultima etc). The road handling is incredible and the sheer fun on the road is addictive.

The biggest problem with Lotus products is that they are so addictive. They are grin inducing and you will always want to come back for more. I have done an incredible amount of miles in mine just because I can. I get to work, look at the car park then the road and disapear for another half hour.

It is not a case of these cars are good, they are the best. I will need serious therapy to get me out of my car.

Agree with gooby. I use mine everyday for work and on a grey Monday morning there is nothing to brighten your day more than driving your exige.Go for it you won't regeret it ( just make sure you have air con ) oh and a stage 2 zorst! On the reliability front I think they are pretty bomb proof only minor niggles ( boot gas strut not very good for example - nit picking really).

Buy the latest copy of Evo (mine arrived today) and read about Meaden's Exige (FastFleet). As the caption asks "the ideal dual-role car?". It's at home on and off the track...

Hi all,

Just something to bare in mind, the rear tyres wont see much life after 7 - 9000 miles and there not cheap to replace around the £150 - 200 mark also there's very limited rear visibility using the mirror from within the Car. The boot also has limited access and what appears to be a smaller opening then the 111R. sorry to sound like I'm putting a downer on it but apart from the hassle to remove the roof everything else is A1. I'd have gone for the performance pack but it was a little to hard to live with compared to an R.

And before anyone asks I didn't end up buying one but watch this space

umm, thats never going to happen... u wont be stopping at your local garage, a loaf of bread will is almost guaranteed to turn into a 40 minute drive around some back roads!

If only! Best I've managed so far was 4000, of which 1500 were at running-in (aka granny) pace.

Get one and you won't regret it, but don't expect it to handle like the Mazda so be cautious in the wet and get yourself some driver training.

Does depend on the tyre and if it is an everyday car then it is yoko's for the summer and bridgestones for the winter.

No problem (apart from price!)

Can the Exige be used day to day?

Absolutely, I've had mine for a month and use it during the week for commuting through London and weekends for B-road fun.
The ride is very firm but not 'crashy' and the seats are very comfortable.
Build quality seems excellent, but then again I also have an '86 Esprit S3, so I'm still quite impressed when the Exige starts first time.
I was most concerned about ground clearance, but so far so good, have yet to be defeated by a speed bump. The number plate is set slightly lower than the spoiler/splitter so gives you a bit of warning.

Overall, it's an amazing car. If you want a car that fully engages you in the driving process and constantly surprises you with its ability then look no further. Also, if you want Japanese school girls to take pictures of your car as you drive over Tower Bridge, then this is also the car for you.

Hi
Thanks for all your replies, they have been helpful! I think the best thing for me to do is a book a few test drives and see how it feels! However i did go over to the local lotus garage yesterday and the autumn gold colour looked quite nice!!

Hey!

Just wondering how everyone is getting on with there exige in the last couple of days, as its been raining quite a bit! Are the tyres handling the wet roads well, or is it a case of waiting til the sun comes out again!

cheers
phil

no problems what so ever, no leaks, no handling issues. just fine. one has to drive with care but then that goes for any car.
