There was a report on the radio this morning that said 63% of girls and 51% of boys passed the basic tests at primary school. The education guy said we should concentrate on the success of the boys - WTF, that means half(ish) failed, he needs to get the boys and girls nearer 100% before coming out with this sort of cr@p. Why are these kids getting such low results - tests too hard or teaching(and learning at home) not good enough?
I'd say the majority of the problem is at home. Parents will sit their wee scrotes in front of the tv/playstation/PC, and use it as a babysitter. No more will they sit and read something with them, or sit while they do their homework. The teachers need to talke some responsibility, but I learnt to read and write from my folks, not from school.
well it is a combination of poor standards at school and lack of discipline.
I feel sorry for the teachers , nothing they do is good enough , they struggle to teach in the classroom and they face the wrath of the parents who often think the sun shines up their children's posteria.
IMHO i think it should be 50/50 , teachers can only do so much , it's up to the parents to nag their kids to do homework and encourage them to to go to libraries and get relevant books to up their standard in every subject.
Most parents are only too glad to rid of their children so they can watch Eastenders in peace (just an example), and let them roam the streets and mix with undesirables.Parents should dedicate an hour a day helping their children with homework( not actually doing it for them) .As long as parents bury their heads in the sand and think their children can do no wrong , and believe the education is a 100% the teachers/school responsability , low standards are always guaranteed.Parents should side with the teachers if there is a problem with poor discipline /standards .
A prime example , an efficient army is based on respect and discipline , not pandering to every soldier when they are not happy with the rules. After all you don't see a parent having a go at a seargant major because her son cried to her over the phone!
Unfortunately these days , that's what you get at school. To achieve good results , we need a radical change in attitudes and rules , and accountabilty should be shared 50/50 between school and parents.
