About 10 miles into my journey this morning the car starting hesitating and spluttering and no fuel was getting through at all.

Turned the car off and left it for 30 secs then back on and all was well for another 5-10 miles then the same thing again. Seems to ggradually get worse then clear one I've turned the car off even if it only for 10 seconds or so. Its a 1.4 multipoint k-series engineI. presume its a fuel problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what exactly could be causing this?

many thanks in advance

First guess would be fuel filter, then possibly fuel pump.

Could be the venturi freezing up, check the pre-heat system for the air intake, have you changed fuel recently? if you can get the air intake off quick enough after stalling you can sometimes catch it melting, vw's were prone to this.
Or a blocked cat/exhaust can give similar symptoms.

My K-series did the same, changed the rotor arm, hey presto its fine! It has a resistor inside that goes off
