A colleague asked me this and I didn't know what to say, so wondering if anyone else does:
He sold a car a few months back, but by mistake left the V5 with the buyer. The buyer obviously didn't bother informing Swansea that he now owns the car, and my colleague has just received a Penalty Charge Notice for a ticket that was issued after he sold the car. What's the remedy in this situation?

visit the buyer with your largest friends and a cricket bat.
edited to say did he have a dated receipt or anyhting to try and prove he sold the car?

Says he does, but doesn't know if the address might be a false one...

Thats not his problem - if he can show that he sold the car prior tothe event, its the councils problem to track downthe driver, not your mates.

Write em a letter n tell em to stuff it.

I would also suggest he write to Swansea explaining the situaton and giving as much detail as he can. Including a copy of the reciept if he has one. This should stop future tickets.

He will probably get a fine from DVLC for not notifying them that he had sold the vehicle, I think that it is about £30.00
