non-digital camcorder conversion

I seem to recall that there is some kit to convert non-digital camcorder footage into digital (for Mac).

Could anyone help me out?

An alternative is to pick up a cheaper DV camera with analogue input and firewire out. Or borrow one if you don't have too much material to upload
