Jobs not scameras say nurses

Spend money on nurses and cut waiting lists instead

Wheelie-bin camera
Wheelie-bin camera
As wheelie bin-housed speed cameras sit unused in storage, nurses are demanding to know why the money wasn't better spent.

That's the story from Australia, where the cameras are designed to be inconspicuous and to catch unwary drivers in the smallest of streets. According to a story in the Sunday Mail (see link below), the Government has paid some AUS$135,000 (£57,000) each for the devices but they're sitting in storage rather than being deployed. The police said they have yet to be trialled.

That's why Australian Nursing Federation leader Lee Thomas has argued that the money would be better spent on more nursing jobs, and so reduce waiting times for surgery.

The Government has passed the buck onto the police.
Opposition police spokesman Robert Brokenshire
Funny I was in the same year at primary school with his daughter. Small world indeed.

Anyway it's about time some of the more worthy causes started questioning where the money goes, though I shouldn't complain too much about them not deploying the devices.

I can think of better things to put in a wheelie bin than a speed camera. But then again we would need a commercial type for Fat Prescott and Toby Bliar's head and Gordon Brown would no doubt increase the charges for dumping rubbish

Have to disagree. I can't think of a better item to put in a wheelie bin (except for the scamera policy papers!)

It'll be amusing when the bin-men come along and empty the evil contents into the compactor then take it to the landfill site where all of these devices belong!!

I remember somewhere on my favourite forum that these wheelie bins kept doing runners, maybe the scamrateri are not yet deploying them until they have enough spycams to protect the wheelies ! then , I suppose, they will have to then find more spycams , to protect the spycams , protecting the wheelies !!

(please copy the last two lines ad infinitum )
where will they stop i wonder?

When they run out of our money!!!

(Then again, they may just raise the fines so they can keep going!!! Douglas Adams would have had a field day - the Camera Event Horizon, where it becomes economically unviable for any law-enforcement resources to be spent on anything other than cameras and CCTV!)

A wheelie bin's a bit of a dodgy place for a taxcam, given the Aussies' tendency to throw up spontaneously in random places.....

I've had liquid laughs in baths...
And I've hurled from moving cars.....
And I've chuckled when and where it pleases me..eeee

Open the bin, Bruce, I need a chunder......

If they introduce them here I'll happily stick my fingers down my throat. I might even go as far as drinking aussie beer, well perhaps not that far.

I think we shoud issue fixed penalties to scammers for littering the streets und causing obsruction ....und also for damage to planet in all that paper wasted on fixed penalties to persons pinged at ridiculously low blip overs.

But you don't need to do anything illegal (as fun as it may be) to stop these working.

Just turn them around to face away from the road - bet you'd get done then for owning a 'speeding' garden fence
