warm fleece and water proof jacekt
Discussion
I've had my Fastnet by Wynnster a few years now. It will fill the warm/windproof requirement. It's the warmest jacket I've got by far and works well when I've got the roof down ..

My Patagonia fleece is brilliant (www.patagonia.com/). Snowboarding kit from Burton I will also reccomend.
Your best bet, imo, is to get a fairly normal fleece and wear layers underneath it and a motorcycle waterproof over-jacket over the fleece. If you get a mega-fleece you'll roast when it's not freezing cold and you won't be able to do much about it.
Only had my screenless westy for a couple of weeks and it's been wet everytime I've taken it out but I found that my snow-boarding jacket is fine unless it's really pissing down and then my bike over jacket (normally wear it over bike leathers) over a fleece keeps me dry even through the wall of water I drove through on the M4 yesterday.

What on earth is an interactive zip
Berghaus do a good range of windproof fleeces. I'd go down to somewhere like Blacks and they will have a good range for you to try. As said above, if it is really cold then the best bet will be one of these plus layers underneath.
An interactive zip is a zip that is compatible with waterproof jackets. You can zip the fleece inside to act as a lining rather than have 2 coats. I think the YKK zips wil do this.
this is worth a quick read so you know what to look out for on the labels

I like Berghaus fleeces myself, I got one whilst I was at school
almost 10 years ago and I still use it if I go mountain biking or something now! Can't believe how long it's lasted! So pleased in fact I've now got three others in various colours
The North Face are cool as well

gortex is one of the best waterproof breathable membrane linings you can get, and any of the northface or berghaus jackets will have this for their membrane lining.
Most have interactive YKKS for fleeces, but the whole schebang wont be cheap.
Berghaus start at £59.99 for the cheapest waterproof (GTX) (but this lining is aquafoil not gortex), this jacket is not interactive.
Cheapest interactive berg is the cornise, mid weight, and gortex lined, will cost circa 150 notes.
Nothface is more specialist, but larger millets, and most blacks stock it. Palasade jacket is a good choice, gortex lined, I think its £129.99.
In both cases millets and blacks stock a generic fleece which has an interactive zip, or you can buy a berg Spectrum III or IV fleece which will set you back £39.99 but are bloody good. They are also the quickest drying fleece you can get, and retains much of its warmth when wet.
Remember that when the fleece is attached to the jacket, it may be fully waterproof, but the addition of the fleece will make the outershells breathability redundant, so if the weather hots up so will you..
Ive personally got a lowe alpine jacket mid weight jacket which has triple point breathable membrane, and i use my berg interactive fleece for when its a bit colder, jacket was £99.99 and the fleece was £39.99..

Fleeces are normally rated 100,200,300 to determine
thermal properties "polatec" being the brand name of the most popular material.
Have had a Berghause 200 that was good...but try looking in a T.O.G shop(check web site for nearest store)as they are really good quality and came top in the WHICH survey a couple of years back.

Why can no one spell GORE-TEX correctly?? I see it everywhere, including books and magazines, spelt wrongly. Usually in a different way each time. I find it very annoying!!
