Found a nice looking '97 4.2 cerb, it has headlight conversion, and 18" spiders, and although it looks like a very nice example in the pic, it is going for !& grand, and has 56k miles on the clock. I need to find out some more info on it yet. But would you guys say thats a bit steep for a 97 cerb with that many miles on it?mmm....

Buying a Cerb is about finding one that is going to cost you less in the future. Mileage means either it needs fixing or that someone has spent a lot of money getting it right. I would want a refreshed engine though at this mileage.

Loads of threads on this subject.

I have a '97 4.2 that I have spent a lot of time and money on, it has done 60,000 and is at APM for a refresh now. 25,000 I have done in 20 months.

I wouldn't part with it for less than £17k as I have fixed, or had fixed, all of the normal Cerb gremlins and most of the car is upgraded in one form or another. I am used to it and trust it, mainly because Andy knows the car inside out.

Find out if it has a good and steady indy background and check it out through one of them.

Yes that is expensive for a 97 with that many miles on it.

They should be about £13-15k for that type of car.

But if it is the right car with the conversion and wheels then you may be happy to pay extra for what you consider the right car.

Perhaps you should go and look at it and see if you can strike a deal if it is a good 'un.

BTW my 97 4.2 is for sale at £14k . Andy at APM will vouch that it is good one. I am based in Southampton-quite happy to show you around the car. Hasn't got the wheels or conversion but you can fix that. Personally I think the original lights are better and originality will command a premium as the marque becomes more rare. IMHO.

being a mechanical engineer i dont really worry about mileage when i usually buy cars if its been looked after. But knowing what these engines are like im a bit more sus! Im not scared of pulling the thing apart to repair myself, just the cost and mainly 'availability' of parts that worries me. It does look nice, im going to see it next weekend. The owner is also in the same line of work as me and says he has serviced it himself, but it has tvr history prior to him. All depends on condition i spose, we shall see!

Are you really chasing a car with the lights and spiders? Cos for 17K there are plenty of 30 - 40K mile 4.2 cars.

Or you could go for a nice 4.2 with under 42K on it and FSH for £13,495. Ahem... not plugging any particular current ad or anything...

Me neither, it's a mystery to me. It's bad enough having to sell your dream car, but I'm actually selling it now for £100 less than I paid for it, and it has had about £3,000 worth of goodies fitted to it this year!

Maybe I should put the price up?!

Don't know that one but I've heard things about the one below it. It's local to me.

Peter, somebody phoned me earlier about my car but I already have a deposit left on it so I mentioned your car to him just saying it might be worth looking at.

I went through the same thing. I had absolutely nothing for 4 weeks then about 8 or 9 people phoning or emailing in the space of a weekend.
Hope you get something sorted soon.
