Can anyone please tell me about Phenylalanine?

I'm aware that it's some kind of amino acid found in alot of diet products (like diet coke) and that it can do mad things to brain cells if consumed in massive quantities, but I'd like to know more. :)

I'm no guru but phenylalanine is one of the 8 essential amino acids ie your body can't synthesize it.

It can affect your mood, alertness and memory.

Like most supplements don't go over the score, about 5000mg a day.

A good protein rich diet should give you about 2000mg a day.

I have a bottle of DL - Phenylaline (DLPA) here, 500mg, which I take with Deprenyl after I read a recommendation by a neuro-scientist on another forum I'm on.

He equated it to doing a very small amount of charles but lasting all day. Never met Charlie-boy myself so can't compare but gives you a boost after a week or so, not for long term use though.

Try it and see, DLPA is what you need.

No expert, but my understanding is that it is not a problem for most people but that some people are very allergic to it and so it is always labled clearly where present.

It's chemically related to amphetamine, so that makes sense.

Yes, people with phenylketonuria can't metabolise it.
