My First Tuscan
Discussion
Have just sold my Volvo V70 and bought a lovely new van,so thought it was time i bought something special.I have 20-25K to spend and have always loved the Tuscan,it will only be used at weekends and may be stood for some time,i have read all the postings from other members who love there Tuscans but have still had problems, they all seam to shrug these problems off, someone said to me the other day to allow 5k a year for repair bills and he was in the trade and selling a tuscan. So when i buy my first tuscan and i will is it luck of the draw or should i buy one knowing it could cost me,the jokes about things falling off don't bother me i can always stop and pick them up lol.Feedback would be fantastic, thanks.
Welcome aboard.
You could do worse than to get along to meet of either your local TVR group (don't know what part of the country you are) or some other PH-type gathering.
Owners are often only too willing (
- I should know, apparently i do!) to enthuse about their cars, and will let you into some of the more interesting "features" of ownership too!!!Welcome to the mad house
If you spend any where near £5k a year you either have money to burn or have been very unfortunate IMHO i would like to think my car is reasonably sorted and i don`t spend any where near that amount, make sure you have some spare ££££ put by(Credit card?)yes... but £5k

hi i came from a very sorted very quick honda powered elise which was extremely reliable even for a lotus.
i've had my tuscan a couple of months and yes it does have it's querks and problems but believe me that they disappear fast when you get behind one of these cars.
do it. better to regret buying one then to look back and not be able to buy one later on in life.
it's a bit like having a pole dancer for a wife. a little bit high maintenance from time to time and gets massive attention but is worth it.

I would like to be actually knocked out by Muhammad Ali one day. Maybe he can't really knock me out now, but I really wish he would. It might upset me, or cause me to see out of only one eye forever, but I will be proud forever of the story.
People want to be associated with greatness, regardless of the consequences.
I also acquired a Tuscan for the same reasons. Rock on! Go for it is what I say.
Tuppence added.
PS any smart arse who is queueing up to knock me out can consider that gag avenue closed.

Hey Smilie
I went through exactly the same contemplation 3 months ago....
I bought and haven't looked back!! Having owned all the usual Porsche's and BMW's etc, nothing gets close to the pure exhilaration of driving the Tuscan.
I did opt for the safety net of buying from a TVR main dealer taking advantage of their 12 month warranty (not wishing to offend anyone currently selling privately as I appreciate the arguments both for and against this).
I’ve had a few niggles (accelerator cable, electrical fault and slight running problem) all of which have been fixed under warranty without quibble.
My plan was to minimise running costs in the first 12 months with the dealer service and warranty coming as part of the package, then simply put to one side £300 a month for costs in years 2 and 3. If this is not used, I may even treat the missus to a holiday!!
In summary - just do it - you will not regret it...

Its not really an experience that compares to owning other vehicles. They have a poor turning cirle making them ney on impossible to parallel park, they have poor ground clearence so you really have to plan your journeys, they are noisy to start at 6am, internally they lack the creature comforts, but that said I love them.
Nothing gives me more pleasure that hitting an open road with the roof in the boot and a grin on my face. They do take some used to get to but it is more than worth it. If you have to drive I would much rather be behind the wheel of my trev than a F##D something.
Break the mold and by a piece of motoring history - you only live once and I'd rather live mine in a Trev than a Fiesta! (no offence to fiesta owners)

As I have had my fair share of troubles in the last 18 months or so, I'm often asked if I still have the Tuscan. You bet, the family silver has gone, the kids were sold, although they mysteriously arrived back on my doorstep parceled up, can't think why! but the Tuscan just gives you that wonderful feeling of being lucky enough to own one and be able to enjoy it.

James Sim.
