and he was very tasty.

Has anyone else given Venison a try?

I must say I prefer it to beef.

Its the king of meats.

Try Wild Boar, very good alternative to Pork.

I don't like venison, I've tried it a couple of times, prefer a nice medium rare piece of beef

Many, many times. Great stuff. Also have some venison paté in the fridge.

Has anyone else tried turtle? Tastes a little like beef.

Will do, if I can find a Restaurant that sells it.

I was only able to have venison last night because the pub I went too was doing it as a special (it's not part of their usual menu)

If you head out to Windsor (not far, nice to have a walk around after) on the first Saturday of the month there is a farmers market.

There is a company there called Flugelmere Rare Breeds (or similar) that do Venison, Wild Boar etc.

Well worth a look.

We eat venison semi-regularly. Lovely. Wild Boar too when we can get it - superb stuff.

Both these meats make excellent sausages too - well worth a try!

The Test of any culture is the quality of its sausages...

As Don says, venison sausages are delicious - rich and tasty, without being overly "meaty" if that makes any sense.

Anyone else enjoyed crocodile? Tastes like white fish but with the texture of chicken. Rather nice.

You would have thought so. When the waitress took our order, I queried it, thinking it might be some badly translated term for raspberry or suchlike, but she said(in a Finnish accent)"No, it is tar, like the roads"

It tasted horrid....sorry Finland.

I'll try and give it a go some time. It is about a hour and a half drive for us though, so we would need to be doing something else in the area as well .

Not Croc but Alligator, funny stuff, very interesting.

Osterich is another alternative yet widely accessible meat thats worth a look.

I was just going to post similar

One day in Ootdshorn in South Africa we had Ostrich Egg omlette for breakfast, helped an ostrich hatch, rode an ostrich, then ate Ostrich steak and sausages off the barbie for dinner (0% fat!).
Just like steak, only a tad richer.

Yup! Very tasty.
As is Kangaroo.

The best venison IMHO though is from ickle Muntjac deer. Very tender and succulent.
