993 running costs

I've been looking into 911's recently, and it seems both late 993's and early 996's (i think) are around the same price...

From reading on here, the 997 is less of a drivers car, slightly softer - and has some issue with leakage around gearbox/engine...


But, my question is (based on a C2) what are the running costs of both cars?

Servicing? Tyres? Normal Annual cost...

Typical 993 C2/C4 on 17" wheels:

10,000 miles for the rears, £320 a pair
14,000 miles for the fronts, £260 a pair
12,000 mile service at good independant, £200
24,000 mile service, £350
60,000 mile clutch (for example), £900
Brake fluid every couple of years, £70
Gearbox fluid every couple of years, £70

Just goes to show that running a 993 is not much more expensive than most other cars !

I'm also looking to buy a 993 but currently have a 1999 BMW 328ci which is going in for a service and brake fluid replacement next week.

Inspection 1 service - £245
Brake Fluid - £80

Done at a BMW Dealer and whole thing including car valeting will take just 2 hrs...... not a bad hourly rate !?!?!

I thought it might be a jump up to 993 running costs but apparently not.

Out of interest, how much is an OPC service ?

Umm, you need to find a good independent... my daily car is a 99 328i sedan and those service items cost me 50% of what you're quoting. No valet though!

If it ever needs stuff doing to it, I know a good independant but it has a full main dealer service history and I am selling it in the near future so decided to keep the main dealer stamps going.

I know I am getting screwed for what little they do !!

on my c4s and tt i never get more than 6k miles out of the rears (18's)

Things go wrong, take your normal servicing costs and then add a chunk more for things that need replacing. I recently had to replace an ABS ECU at a cost of £650+VAT+fitting, soon will have to do the dampers (and may as well put factory sports springs on since its all apart) so there's another £2k. My brother has the same car (993 c2) and reckons on about £2k pa just on repair and maintenance then tyres on top at say £5-600, depending on mileage of course. Just clocking up my spending over the past 18 months, it will be working out at about this level.
