high mileage griff

Hi,
I'm looking at a P reg griff with 54,000 miles on the clock - is there anything I should look out for in particular or anything expensive that will be due for repair/ replacement??

Only 54,000? Thought you were posting about one with a high mileage?

check for a lot of chips ont nose, this'll set you back about 600 quid if it needs doing, make a note of where the clutch bites, 400 quid to replace, tyres, exhaust, brakes, oil press around 50 psi when on the move and around 20 at tickover, 13/14 volts charging with some stuffon like the lights, radiator condition, let it warm up at idle and note when the fans cut in and at what tempif it has a full service history she'll be right

On a more helpful note, the history and use will give you a good clue. It's the same as with any other five year old car.

I don't think that there's any hard and fast rule, like: 60,000 mile service replace the engine, or 75,000 mile service polish the rear tweedleslappers and grease the main camgiblets........

got a 4.0ltr griff which i purchased at 68500 miles. now on 87,000 and not had any probs at all. this is my fourth tvr and all the others had alot lower miles. if its got some miles under it and had a full histoy then its worth looking at. good luck

Had the tweedleslappers done on mine at 12 and 24k miles. Am just coming up to 28k and I think they need another polishing. Anywhere know somewhere cheaper than 240 plus VAT?

But with that mileage it will be £X,000 cheaper than a lower-mileage model. That gives you some slack to fix anything that might go pop. You pays your money.... etc. But there are many who believe that a well-used TVR is sounder than a scarcely-used one. If it checks out, it could be a bargain.

I think i can beat 250quid. I'm pretty competent at polishing my helmet so this should be no probs! hows 50 quid sound? (Oh and Joolz says check for hairline cracks in the funglintoads (he was drunk at the time))

Yeah - I keep publicising that the basic cost of my last service was £170. I reckon that a Griff (or a Chimaera) has to be the best for £££ you can find if you put it in the hands of a decent independent.
