What do you reckon guys? Is it worth the extra bit to put Optimax,Ultimate in the tank? I've read the Tesco post but didn't know which TVRs they were referring to.

Some people have reported 'pinking' issues with 95Ron, some not.
I use Optimax 98 in my 400..more expensive, but i think i feel happier using it.

It depends what your ignition timing is set to.

My timing is currently set for regular 95 Ron unleaded and using 98 Ron (Optimax etc) makes the wedge run like a bag of nails. She runs much better on 95.

I haven't started adjusting the timing with optimax in the tank, although it makes a big difference in my Audi TT
I do notice a slight improvement in fuel consumption with the optimax which negates the 5p / litre higher price at the pumps. It goes without saying though, if you drive a wedge you "have" to use the extra power to hear that lovily exhaust note, thus actually costing you even more on fuel...

Either way, I guess its all in the timing. If memory serves me correctly (often it doesn't) your looking at 8deg BTDC for optimax/98 Ron or 4deg BTDC for regular unleaded.

Regarding Tesco 99: Please find below the list of 12 stores that sell 99 Octane Super
Unleaded petrol:

1. Bedford 1
2. Cheshunt Extra
3. Crawley Hazelwick
4. Gallions Reach Extra
5. Gillingham
6. Lakeside
7. Ramsgate Manston
8. Salisbury 2
9. Sandhurst
10. Sevenoaks Riverhead
11. Stevenage
12. Winchester

The other ones are 97 Octane. They didn't confirm the ethanol content, but I heard elsewhere that it's between 5 and 10% and they get a govt grant for it. I guess that might explain the variability I have been seeing.

I try to always put super in my 350SE - find sainsburys by far the cheapest - £0.91/litre here.

Find no difference with optimax. Seems to run okay on 95RON as well when I've had to put it in.

What number is your SE?

Even wierder I just spotted that the pumps all have 99 on them here at Tesco's Milton, but I can't remember if that was the case a week ago when I last filled the 400SX. So I'm gonna start again with a fresh tank of 99 and report back...
