Quandry... I need you opinions please.

My current kit consists of:

Canon 10D
28-135 f3.5 IS
100-400 f4.5 IS
17-40 f4
2x EF II Converter
220 EX Speedlight Flash

I'm looking to upgrade the 10D to something a bit punchier, but I can't really justify the 3k for a 1D.
I was quite dissapointed with the spec of the new 5D, not being waterproof and shooting slower per second than the 20D.

Then I read the thread on the new Nikon D200.
Spec looks good. The type of camera fits my criteria (I believe).

So what do I do?
Sell my Canon kit and jump ship to the dark side (Nikon) or wait till Canon makes something better?

All my gear is in very good condition and the lenses are quite desirable, so I guess I would get a fairly good return if I was to change (all be it 50%ish).

Love to hear thy thoughts oh worthy ones :)

try and find a 1Dmk2 not the n version. should be able to pick them up for under 2k now. problem with changing is the lenses you already have. even if you sell all your canon stuff it will cost you more in the long run to buy nikon gear. your current camera is not waterproof remember

Dave 406, you'd better get a move on building the Clud Saloon Bar extension, and order another 1,000 certificates (Have we got enough parking?)

And buy a wooden spoon while you're out getting the Nikon!

I can't believe anyone in good concience will tell you to ditch your canon gear (joking aside of course). Just to replace those lenses with Nikon equivalents will cost you a fortune, IS (VR in Nikon speak) doesn't come cheap.

Haven't bothered to price it up but I'd wager it would be cheaper to buy a 1dSmkII body than to switch...

Doesn't look like the D200 is waterproof either. If you're about for a beer one evening/weekend you can have a play with a 1DmkII...then go out and buy one . BTW all of Trackdemon's VMAX pics this time were with the 1DmkII.

I knew you were, hence my bit about joking aside. Still, nice to know the lure of Nikon is strong.

Cost to convert will be much higher than finding a nice used 1D.

I recently went hrough the same quandry but from the other side as Nikon have been so long in replacing the D100.

When I worked out the cost impact of changing the lenses I really need (as opposed to what I have bought over the years ) the cost was prohibitive.

You'll be able to create great images with either, so my 2p worth would be to look around for a nice second hand 1D of some variety.

The CLUD Café will be with me in about 4 weeks if all goes well.Decided on a 6 month old one with full oven to keep the bacon warm The Dark Sdie are less well equipped. I have an infinite number of CLUD Stiffykats so we will be OK there.
