Hi all,

Starting to get serious about buying a GT3 Mk11. Was wanting some advice on what to look out for.

If the car has PCCB, how can I tell if the discs are worn? I wont ask if I should avoid PCCB as there is plenty of discussion in the archives.

RMS. I gather as the block is different RMS is not a problem on the GT3 - ?

What else should I look out for?

Whatever I get I'll make sure I have an extended warranty.

Many thanks,
Neil

Not sure about the PCCB question, as mine are fine on my turbo, but i think you are looking for discolouring, and pitting on the disc, and even worse, chunks missing.

No RMS issues with the GT3(that i know of anyway)

Don't be put off a car that has been tracked, but if so, look for history of extra oil, and gearbox oil changes in addition to normal servise intervals, this would indicate good maintenance.

other than that, just the normal stuff i reckon.

Disks will have pitting if at all worn - looks like little fibres have come out of the surface. To be honest if you plan to track it I wouldn't be too fussed as you'll be replacing with steel after perhaps talking to Porsche.

More recently I've heard that RMS can affect the GT3 block as its down to the weight of the drive train which apparently is heavier due to the power and weight of the engine combiend with the design of the flat 6 block. There is a post on rennlist about this in the last few days. If you have a warranty I wouldn't worry though.

Great cars though. Don't let the above put you off. I love mine

Although I track my RS, I think there are enough Mk II GT3's out there that I would buy one that has not been tracked. Why buy a car that has had some heavy use when there are loads around that have had minimal use?

The only advantage of a tracked car is that it may have had a geometry set up or upgraded suspension, tyres or brakes.

The GT3 comes in Clubsport or Comfort spec the most obvious difference being leather seats or nomex. I don't know if the Comfort has a cage and extinguisher but I am sure someone who knows will be along shortly.

Regarding the ceramic brakes, the majority seem to go for steel. In road use, I don't think you would wear out ceramics but on track they do wear and are very expensive to replace.

Yep given the choice go for the lowest mileage no track use. Just don't let some track use put you off, these cars are tough.

Clubsport in 996 GT3 Mk2 has Nomex Bucket seats, rollcage, harness for drivers seat, fire exstinguisher, cut-off switch, no rear speakers otherwise same as comfort model.
