So, Mr Blunkett was offered, and accepted, shares and a Directorship of a DNA bioscience company.

I can say with all certainty that the only reason senior MP's (who are likely to get into the Cabinet) get offered such positions is because it's a, comparatiely, cheap way to lobby Parliament.

Imagine Blunkett wasn't a senior MP, do you think he would have landed such a plum job? Personally, I think not.

Here's another thought. A few years ago, MP's voted themselves a huge pay rise citing: "Being an MP is not a 40 hour per week job, but an 80 hours per week job". Regarding having lots of Non-exec Directorships (which can be paid any salary regardless of hours worked), MP's say "it's useful, because we get to live in the real world".

Now excuse me if I'm a bit thick, but don't the above two positions seem a little contradictory?

Whats contradictory is that half the cabinet of a 'socialist' government are former public schoolboys.

Quite right, that man....

Politicians rarely know what lurks in the real world.....

Don't get me going about Blunkett, we're still paying off his borrowings from foreign banks when he led Sheffield Shitty (sorry...City) Council.....

I don't wish to be pedantic here PoD, but that's not quite true!...

If you want the "Noo Labor party"....you go here

www.labour.org.uk/home

You will NOT find the word "socialist" anywhere, they expunged it from their name...

On the other hand, if you want the Socialist Labour Party? ...you go here www.socialist-labour-party.org.uk

And as for "Kerplunket"?......well, the least said the better..

Terrific POD!!
I think that Blunkett is an idiot of the highest order, out for nothing more than money and power (just like most UK Politicians)! The conflict of interests thing just proves it further!

It certainly looks dodgy doesn't it. What's more worrying is the fact that public (media) opinion seems to be calling for his head on a pike and Blunkett arrogantly tells them he's staying put.

Accepting a Non-Exec Directorship, 2 weeks before the election, when you expect to rejoin the cabinet is just blatantly corrupt.

He is a corrupt, arrogant, idiot.....who I suspect has grown used to being relateively untouchable due to his blindness.

However....people go into politics seeking power, power then corrupts them, this lot have through their unstopable majority in parliament enjoyed something approaching absolute power since 1997.....so why are we suprised that the entire cabinet are absolutely corrupt?

The same is true of the police, the nearer they get to having unaccountable power.... the more corrupt they will become. It's human nature I'm afraid.

This is just another example of the contempt that our ruling elite hold us plebs in. He fast-tracked a visa application for one of his chums, used travel passes that we paid for to ship his bit of stuff over when he got lonely and "suggested" that police attend said bit of stuff's house when she had a bit of bother with people ringing the bell and running away.

So, he "does a Mandelson" and resigns to serve a "ban" while we all hopefully forget what he has done. Whilst on this sabbatical he keeps his grace and favour house, all ministerial privileges and in fact does better financially -thanks to a tax-free payoff- than he would have done by staying in his job. He also finds time to have another fling, get a couple of jobs without bothering to consult the standards body (when he knew full well he would be back in the cabinet in a short time) and he is still in the cabinet?!

Imagine if he was a Tory, the press would have hounded him out of the country by now. The worst thing about this loathsome man is that if he is forced out again you know he will either be back in the cabinet in a few months or off to some "job for the boys" like Mandelson. It makes me sick to the stomach the disregard that these rsoles have for the rest of us and the rules that are supposed to bind them.
