I've been pulled over as has a mate although this was a while ago. Not really an issue but the inconvenience associated with dorting out docs and producing them at the station is a pain.
There's a point to black visor and wear one on a regular basis but don't bother with a purely cosmetic thing like a plate.
They do look much better though.

I have a plate which is 2 sizes smaller and have loud pipes and a dark vsor in the summer. Never had any problems.
Personally, I think that people use small plates and loud pipes as an excuse for being pulled over for riding like a tt.
I got pulled in Kent once for a Yoshi Exhaust and a small plate, I was only travelling at 30 in a 50 on a roundabout as i had already clocked the copper,
