Usually about this time of year on other forums “make/improve fireworks” threads start appearing, I’m wondering who will be the one to start it here.

It's me!

Don't you know how dangerous it is?

Labour MP on PM's Question time has just demanded a ban on fireowrks... I was surprised when TB sayed that would be a step too far!

Hmmmm well to improve/boost a pre existing firework I suppose one could strap a large plastic bottle filled with petrol to a suitable firework......say a detonation one, like a 'Jack in the Box'.

The fuse on the firework would give enough time to get a safe distance from the firework before the whole lot was ignited by the exploding firework...

......could be quite spectacular I suppose.

You want to be careful. If you are in possession of a firework that could be deployed within 45 minutes you could find that your back garden has been "liberated" by a platoon of tanks. Having said that, that could happen even if you aren't in possession of a firework that could be deployed within 45 minutes.

ah but that's what he wants you to think....Tone to backbench mp, "I seem to be getting a bit of bad press about banning things, be a good chap and ask me to ban something at next question time, I'll refuse it and everyone will like me again"

I'm not into making fireworks but I'm curious about your friend....sounds like it may be a bit brutal though.

I used to make fireworks and bombs and stuff. Was quite fun. Made some cool little rockets and all sorts. Did live on a farm though, so was plenty of space.
To be honest, kids on housing estates don't need them anyway, they only misuse them. The older I get, the less interesting they are anyway.

Still, shouldn't ban them. Banning things just because a few idiots use them innapropriately is not a good way forward. May as well ban alcohol because a few people get p1ssed up and beat people up or need a night in hospital.

Tis about the people, not the product!

Didn't some bloke manage to blow his head off with one of those Chinese mortar type fireworks a few years ago?

no, he lost the sight in one eye, most of the skin on his face and all his hair. suffered from depression for a long while, killed himself eventually. all cos he wanted to tinker with fireworks.

Nervous.. That is sad, and I'm sure it was a bad time, but surely that is something you SHOULD talk about in a thread like this??

Yes.I knew him...had a fireworks party at home.Mortar went off in his face the second he lit it...right in front of his family. Please, please go to a properly organised fireworks display, its just not worth the risk.Things go badly wrong, even if you follow all the safety advice.
