I have just been handed a "Vehicle Safety Recall Notification" by the company about our fleet of company cars for Alfa Romeo 156 (all Versions) Bonnet Closure - Method and Maintenance.
Apparently:
Alfa Romeo have receieved a very samll number of reports of the bonnet accidentally opening. To prevent similar occurrences, we must draw your attention to the need to follow precisely the instruction given in the Owners Handbook regadin the correct closure of the bonnet whenever it is open or the release mechanism operated for any reason.
Finally you are requested to take you car to any Alfa dealer, by appointment, who will check the state of maintenace and efficiency of the bonnet closing mechanism and answer any question you may have.
Just thought i would let all 156 owners know.
Cheers

Ahhh, gotta love Alfa customer service
Weren't it just an internal bulletin last year, like the 156GTA brake saga? Or was it a full blown recall? Either Alfa UK are their usual cráppy selves, or it's now moved from "internal bulletin" to complete recall...
I've a .pdf here knocked-up by someone from alfa156.net that describes the maintenance proceedure for the bonnet catch (all Alfa do is clean the mechanism) if anyone wants it.

I got that bonnet recall letter for the 147 last year and again last week.
I have too for my Sportwagon.

The main thing to remember is to drop your bonnet from a reasonable height, rather than just clicking it down. If the bonnet is closed gently it doesn't always return the interior release handle to the shut position so let it go with a right good clang.

I took my Alfa into the dealership just to get him to give me a quick second opinion on my oil use and whilst i was there they checked the bonnet catch and gave it a good grease.
I'm fairly new to this Alfa game and having bought an import from a non-dealer, i had no warning about the TS engines rather thirsty need for oil. Anyway a few litres later, no serious damage was done. I will now be checking the oil every few weeks.

I had my bonnet on my 156 fly up at 70mph. I always tug the bonnet up after i close it to make sure it's closed.
I am now looking at a new bonnet windscreen and roof. All because the dealer told me that my model 'Would be fine and I didn't need to book it in'.
For gods sake get it checked.
