I heard this on the radio this morning, no Christmas lights, but 'Winter lights' because there are several different religious festivals around this time of year...

I insist we stop talking about 'Christmas presents' and call them 'Commercial presents'. That's the festival they celebrate, after all

My cousin works for a Leeds CC nursery - they celebrate every religous festival going apart from christian ones because one of the christian families complained because they thought it would cause offence!

Words can't adequately convey my contempt for these people.....

They'll push too far one day.

Sooner or later people will start to demand that if Christmas, images of pigs, references to Jesus, etc are banned then so should Diwalli, Ramadan, etc.

This will be a bad thing but a backlash is slowly becoming inevitable. Christians, and those who want to make trouble or those who just think it's gone too far, won't take this for ever.

I've complained

www.lambeth.gov.uk/ContactUs/CommentsComplimentsComplaints.htm

There is a big thing on their website about it.... Obviously they have upset a few people!

Edited to add:

I said I was a disabled black person on the form perhaps they'll take me seriously now

Perhaps the white/christian population of the UK should emigrate, since they obviously cause so much offense to every one else.

I too have complained. This corrosive political correctness has to be challenged.

Unless we start to make our feelings known, the councils won't realise that every time they make an exception for a minority, the silent majority lose. Positive discrimination, despite good intentions is still discrimination.

Oh come on chaps - read the council's (pretty frank) response.

Some junior level twit made a gaff and it gets published in the council magazine and some Tory councillor gets all worked up over nothing (like Lambeth hasn't got enough real problems that need sorting out).

Big deal.

It's not like the lights were banned, nativities in local schools prevented or Churches closed...

Yay for the frothing at the mouth anti-PC brigade doing their once a year moral outrage at PC intrusion into the commercial celebration of the Little Baby JesusTM.

Some of you need to question what you read in 'newspapers' like the Daily Mail and start thinking for yourselves a little bit more...may help with the old blood pressure

Most likely quite true. I travel through Lambeth every day (twice) and am yet to see one of these adverts - they appeared only in the council magazine, I believe.

And when such things have happened in the past, the aouthorities concerned have stood by their decisions, rather than frankly and ambarrassedly admitted a mistake, as Lambeth have here.

They are a rubbish council, but this whole thing stinks of a crusade by the right wing press (again)
