Short term insurance
Discussion
I have just purchased my mother a car from an auction in Castle Donnington, and now need to move it from the auction house to my office in Derby, where it can sit until mother can come up from down south and drive it home.
In order to move it, I need to get some insurance but obviously don't want the expense of paying for an annual policy.
Does anyone know of an insurance company that does short term policies?

Not quite what you're after, but I know of people that have taken out a normal policy then cancelled it when it's no longer needed. You might be stung for 1 month's insurance minimum though.
Pay by monthly DD to prevent the need to get a refund for a year's premiums (which could take a while)

Because presumably by buying the car yourself and presumably transaction will show your involvement and possble ownership at the start then one way possible.....
If any member of the family has a motor and their Insurance Policy (check with a fine tooth comb as to what actually stated) and if it contains only the clause :
"Policy holder may drive a motor car not belonging to them and not hired to them under a hire purchase agreement."
then they can drive the vehicle on their Insurance providing they are willing to put themselves "at risk" third party only.
Some Insurance Companies do not permit such use on a temporary basis so be careful and to be ultra careful if the clause is there run it past the Insurance Company to get their OK.

Have just got mother to check, and her policy states that "Policy holder may drive a motor car not belonging to them and not hired to them under a hire purchase agreement, providing a current policy is in operation on such vehicle"
That counts this option out unfortunately.

So what's wrong with your Mother insuring the car for 12 months, as I'm sure she will be doing anyway and adding you on for the day you need to drive it?
This was initially thought to be out of the question because she has a ladies only policy, but on further inspection was do-able.
I've therefore been added to the policy for a week, costing the sum of £24
