Hi all.
Visited the factory earlier this week
Even though the weather wasn't the best I had a brilliant time - it was much better than I had imagined - especially getting up close the the cars - the quality, fit, finish and detailing is incredible
Ted was absolutely brilliant. We talked about all aspects of the cars, specifications, current hot topics on the various forums, everything.
The big point that I came away with is whatever your questions, ideas, etc. you can't get better help and advice than the factory - so call them or better still visit them
I'm now looking forward to placing my initial order and thoroughly enjoying the whole experience of building the car and many, many years on insane fun once it's on the road.
Thanks Ted and the team for a fantastic day and making me feel really welcome
Everyone should visit at least once...

You didn't find out what he's got against rotary engines did you?

He's just a bit of a traditionalist. They designed the cars to use big V8's, and that's the whole ethos of the car. Light car. Big V8. It's a popular British car thing.
He knows that the cars that are out on the road are what sells future cars. If he doesn't think that an idea is good for the car, he won't wnat you to try it.

In all fairness to Ted, there may be more to the story than just not liking the rotary engine. All I heard was that it was what finally ended the deal. There may have been several other factors involved.
Beside if he dislikes rotaries enough to turn down 5 sales, this must mean the company is doing very well. Which is a good thing for all of us who would like to continue receiving factory support.

Man I've got to get over to England to meet Santa Ted and his elves. Ted's pretty damn sharp isn't he? He's always steered me into the right direction. I guess the only thing keeping me from going over is all the kegs of beer that I owe him! Might have to sell the Ultima to cover it!
Cheers!

Hi All.
The BIG point to my original posting was that if it wasn't for Ted and the team's dedication and absolute commitment to engineering detail and excellence we would not be in a position to enjoy the fantastic cars they produce - and have a real bundle of fun and personal satisfaction from building it ourselves
I think it's pretty disappointing that some of you are questioning the motivation behind Ted's views on what are the best options for the cars he and his team have spent the last 10 years honing to perfection.
Guys, if you want to put a wankel engine or whatever in your car then go ahead - but don't expect the factory to be able to support your efforts. Ultimas are designed to use small block Chevy V8s - I know from my conversation he has worked through every conceivable option. The goal? To provide us with an incredible car that works, is safe, passes all the regulations, and brings huge personal rewards and satifaction for many, many years of ownership.
As far as I'm concerned if the factory recommends a series of options, etc. that's fine by me - afterall I'm not an automotive engineer or ex-racer or part of the team that's dedicated the last 10 years to creating an incredible vehicle to trounce cars many, many times its cost.
You should all pay BIG respect to Ted and the team and respect the design choices and recommendations they make.
Once again HUGE THANKS - TED & THE TEAM
