IT firm bans whinging

Whinging about the weather or the broken photocopier are sackable offences at a German company that has banned moaning.

Employees at IT company Nutzwerk Ltd, in Leipzig, have to agree to be in a good mood as part of their employment contract.

Manager Thomas Kuwatsch said those who get up on the wrong side of the bed should stay at home and work out their grumpiness rather than come into work.

But he warned those taking too much time off for bad moods would face the sack.

"We made the ban on moaning and grumpiness at work official after one female employee refused to subscribe to the company's philosophy of always smiling," he said.

"She used to moan so much that other employees complained about her complaining. Once it was part of the contract however, our employees really started to think positively.

"Mood is an important factor in productivity and everyone here works hard and is happy."

Kathleen Sochor, who has been with the company for four years, said: "It's great that whinging is not allowed. If one person is grumpy it makes everyone else feel bad and ruins what could be a good day."

Lawyer Marion von Sahr said: "In principle, employers and employees can contractually agree on anything if both sides are happy and that includes banning whinging.

"But I am not sure if being a sourpuss is enough reason to fire somebody."

bastards, complaining about life's miseries with a captive audience is half the fun of going to work.

Any company that forces me to smile is a company I would hate to work for, like McDonalds and their have a nice day crap, if you want me to smile give me a big fat pay rise and we'll see what I can do

No it's still common practice to whip developers.

I can understand it, in a way. There was an infamous "young lady" where I used to work who was famed for her moaning. One morning I got into work & walked into the office as she was walking out. She gave me a cheery "Morning" & I mumbled a slightly less cheery "Alright?". She then blurted out "Actually, no, I'm not" & then launched into a rant about how her life was going down the pan, how her husband became a Police Special but none of the cops liked him and how they accidentally left him on his own in the back of the meat wagon with a violent criminal who proceeded to punch his lights out, how she couldn't afford to pay the mortgage, how her hormones were playing up & causing her to become obese, etc, etc, etc. I'd never spoken to this person before in my life & there I was getting the details on every little problem she had, real & imaginary (including "bedroom" problems ). I arrived at work at about 9am. At gone 11am I was still standing outside of the office door, still wearing my jacket & clutching my crash helmet, mesmerised by this womans mouth just blabbering on. It got to the point where my boss was up the top of the next flight of stairs pointing & silently mouthing "HA HA HA" at me from behind her back. Then the MD appeared & did the same, followed by most of the development engineers who'd walked up the stairs at the other end of the building so that they could walk through the upstairs office & mouth things at me while making strange hand signals from behind this womans back. I got away from her at just gone midday, whereupon I managed to sit down, take my jacket off & have a much needed coffee & fag, while the rest of the office took the p1ss until 1pm, whereupon most of them followed me to the pub for a much needed pint so that they could continue taking the p1ss. Effectively, that woman wrote of the morning of the head programmer, along with most of the other engineers, & had disrupted the morning of the MD & Development manager. I also think I suffered an internal injury from supressing the urge to collapse on the floor howling helplessly with laughter at her "bedroom" problems (I'm not posting them - but her husband had got a good kicking from a violent thug while locked in the back of a meatwagon with him & she was having some weight problems - work it out! I did dare suggest a block & tackle while keeping a straight face, which is the point at which I think someting inside me went ping. It hurt for several days). Thus, banning people that moan like that isn't such a bad idea..... I certainly wouldn't want to endure anything like that again
Right, I'm now going to spend the rest of the day moaning to my workmates about people who moan all day long.

Try this:
1) Hold your hand up.
2) Say 'Excuse me, I have some programming to do.
3) Walk away.

You can of course embellish this as you wish, but it would have saved you 3 hours of your life.

Quite right, too....

Can't stand people who moan and whinge and grumble and whine about anything that comes into their minds. I mean, what's the bloody world coming to when people can't just shut up and accept life and understand that they've got to absorb what's thrown at them and say nowt so we don't have to listen to them ranting on about inane, pathetic, petty grumbles that I, for one, couldn't give a toss about? Good god, can't they understand that life's an arse and just being here means that adversity will kick them up the bum every time they draw breath? If they think I'm giving my sympathy to their mindless bullshit, they've got another think coming. And another thing....why can't Cliff Richard bloody retire, and why can't John Prescott be struck down by a screaming thunderbolt..? Eh? eh? Where's the bloody justice in life?

There is none......

Why can't everybody be calm, collected and reasoned, just like me...?

Didn't work (which is why she was so famed). Doing either of the 3 options resulted in her getting closer (much closer, well into my personal space!), between me & the office door & talking even louder & faster, as if her life depended upon getting each & every sentence out as fast as possible (at points she was getting flushed from the exertion). The only option I had, & I remember considering it, was to turn & run away. Three problems with that:
1) Real men don't run away!
2) I'd never had lived it down, the news would have run through the company like wildfire. And our suppliers. And our competitors. And our cutomers (did I mention that she was famous for moaning?).
3) She could have headed me off at the other door. Or worse, she could have trapped me at my desk.
When your boss & the MD are laughing at you from behind her back then you know that you're on your own, no cavalry will save you, nobody will head her off at the pass, you just have to let the moan run its course & endure it like a penance.
I did consider the option of lighting a roll-up & blowing smoke in her general vacinity, but that would have just caused her to moan about her health & then lead on to the state of the NHS, I could have been there all day. I don't think I wimped out on getting away (I tried, I really did) but I consoled myself with the knowledge that throughout history far harder men than me have been driven to go to war by moaning women
An ex-workmate bumped into her in the local shopping centre recently & she started moaning about how we were all made redundant, the lack of money, her weight problem (ever seen a barrage balloon in a skirt?), her husband, etc, etc. As he was with his missus & small child he tried the "Sorry, I'm really busy, nice seeing you" & walking off approach, but she literally followed them from shop to shop, moaning & groaning & whining & whinging. She could moan for England! In the good old days we could ship all the whingers off to Aussie & NZ, but they got wise to it & tightened up their immigration laws, so now we're stuck with them. Or are we? Could we deport them to Germany to work in companies with suspect names......
