100 A fuse - This forum is great!

Well after using the search facility on PH I've finally stopped throwing toys out of my pram and I have a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

After being stuck in a traffic jam for an hour last night, suddenly the ignition warning light stated to light up which was ironic as all the other lights on the car started to dim! As I'd only had the car back for a week after waiting 2 months to get a clutch replaced the language in the car was rather choice!!

To the cars credit it lasted another hour and got me home. Once I was safely on the drive I tried to restart the car, but nothing. Consulatation of the handbook suggested that my alternator was f@cked. Ho Ho, I thought, I bet that will be cheap.

However, after reading other posts on the subject I'm gonna change the 100 A fuse and keep my fingers crossed.

I just need to get hold of one now. Does anyone know a website that I can get them mail order, or the most likely shop in the Bolton/Manchester area to get hold of them?

A good motor factors will have them (you know the great old dark shops with some old bloke in a brown coat behind the counter ). You might need to take the old one in to show 'em though.

Or i put one of these on - was a lower when i walked into maplin. that way you know they have. i'm pretty impatient and two places i tried didn't have a 100AMP fuse to go across.

I saw these mentioned on a couple of other threads, but I'm like Frank Spencer when it comes to doing things on the car. I fell that replacing like for like is within my ability, but that looks a different size and shape so I'm imagining it'll be a bugger to fix in place.

Did you have to do anything special to make it fit?

I fitted one of these. It was OK for the first few weeks but it began to trip a lot. I removed it and tested the unit; it was going off line at 40A and not 100A.

Back to the old fuse type now.

I would stick with the 60p fuse. Always carry a replacement.

I found 10 for £2.55 on the net which sounds like a bargain - if only every TVR problem could be fixed so cheaply

I'm going to disconnect the battery to avoid any issues when I drop the wrench and connect every bit of metal in a circuit.

Am I likely to encounter any isses when I re-connect the battery e.g will the key fob still work or does it need re-syncronising?
